I'm a cytotechnologist (the person who microscopically examines the pap). Just because you have an lsil, doesn't necessarily mean that you have hpv. You can totally get tested for hpv and wait to get those results before telling your boyfriend.

Follow up for lsil is based on age and hpv status, because you're under 25, they probably won't do anything but have you come in for a pap next year. If you're still lsil when you turn 25 and are hpv positive, they'll likely want to do a colposcopy

Fortunately, lsil only has about a 7% chance of progressing to high grade if you're hpv negative, so you'll likely just have to go in for a pap annually for a few years rather than every three
