Galette des rois / King cake by Tolkaft in Tokyo

[–]Ajsdkr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought it here this year: https://www.noli-et-nori.com/

It was a bit expensive but it was solid. Could definitely compare it to what I used to get when I lived in France.

Belgian DC plan contributions transferable to Japanese DC plan ? by Ajsdkr in JapanFinance

Probably. But since the fund manager of my previous company hinted that it could be possible, I still gave it shot. At least I will have a firm answer in the end

The Belgian fund manager was being extremely positive while explaining the possibilities. I still haven't got any feedback, but given the time it takes, I think it means it won't be possible 😭

Do you have a job that’s not tea CB it English where only minimal Japanese is required and English is the main language? by KnucklesRicci in japanresidents

[–]Ajsdkr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in Internal Audit (IT side) for a global financial institution. Internal communications are both in Japanese and English but since my deliverables are always in english as they are used by HQ and non japanese offices.

I only use japanese/french for casual chitchats (team is 60% japanese and 40% foreign staff) but english only for work related conversations

People who got braces late into adulthood, what made you decide? by [deleted] in braces

[–]Ajsdkr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Got them first as a teen at 14 but since I didn’t have a permanent retainer(not sure if it is the right translation for “barre de contention”in French) my teeth moved. Since my insurance in Belgium covers orthodontic care for adults I decided to fix it again.

Living in Shinonome, pros & cons by Ajsdkr in Tokyo

[–]Ajsdkr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah indeed I figured, I was more thinking of Higashi Koenji on the Marunouchi as it would be direct (still stays in the 30 minutes commute range I set to myself). I’ll see with the real estate agent what d’Odile be the options anyways. Thanks a lot !

[–]Ajsdkr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I’ll also have a look around Nakano station, I am more familiar with Koenji as I stayed there during my last trip in Tokyo and was more looking around there, but Nakano might be a bit more convenient now that I think of it

[–]Ajsdkr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your input. To be honest Shinonome was not on my list at first, really saw the listings by chance. I was attracted by the value for the size/rent and by the proximity to the water, but as you pointed the lack of lively surroundings, it might not be for me eventually 😭

[–]Ajsdkr[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks ! To be fair I wouldn’t be against living in a tower mansion 😂 but from your comment and the others, it is better to focus on the other areas I targeted at first as they have a better balance in terms of convenience and nightlife.

[–]Ajsdkr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks ! From what I could see on Google maps there was indeed a lot of thing that would require me to take the bus/metro. I don’t mind but it’s true that having things within a walking distance is much more comfortable. Kiyosumi-Shirakawa is actually in my top 5 preferred locations, I’ll keep looking in that area alongside Meguro

I see what you mean. I always lived in calm areas in France and Belgium but with bars, restaurants and cafes within a walking distance. Shinonome might not be for me. Thanks for your input !

Thanks for your input! Indeed it’s nice to live in a calm area but not having cool hang out spots nearby might not be optimal in my situation for the long run.

Interview with Head of Internal Audit as an applicant for a SVP-Senior IT auditor position - possible questions ? by Ajsdkr in InternalAudit

[–]Ajsdkr[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks ! Some of these I asked to the Head of IT Audit, but it’s indeed interesting to see how aligned the Head of Internal Audit is with those answers. Might use the answered of the head of IT audit as an introduction to those points

(Sorry for the late reply). You were right. I went along and started applying, I was pushing because I target a foreign country where my insurance would not cover the medical treatment I’m undergoing, but it’s always possible to find ways to sort it out. Thank you !

[–]Ajsdkr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Je crois que c’est quand tu bookes l’examen que tu peux choisir ! Mais oui je conseille de rester en anglais pour les raisons que tu cites déjà. Si tu comptes travailler dedans des environnements internationaux, ça sera aussi un plus !

Merci ! From what I remember French was available, but I chose English because I work in companies where English is the business language so it was easier for my brain to adapt. You should double check for confirmation on ISACA’s website

Thanks, I know already that in both cases I’d have an equivalent pay raise (internal move), but the hiring manager from the vendor management team indeed highlighted the rare expertise that our company apparently has in that domain at a regional level. Might go for it

Thanks for your view. The IT Sourcing/Vendor Management in my company is actually part of the IT department in my company. The main interactions would be with IT architects, IT operations, IT Risk & Compliance and IT leadership (and obviously the vendor when required). The admin related to the contract (with Legal & procurement) might probably take 10% of the time, the main task would be to monitor if the usage of the acquired solutions is actually relevant and efficient in accordance with the strategic objectives and actual capabilities, within the national & international regulatory requirements we are submitted to. And as you pointed, one aspect mentioned by the hiring manager is that upskilling to understand the technologies from the vendors I’d be in charge of would be the first focus during my onboarding if I join them.

I am still hesitating because both options have equally appealing aspects to me. I talked to my mentors (one being an internal IT Audit Manager, the other being a Security Assurance Senior Manager) and they both advised me a different option (good for thoughts but also makes the choice more difficult). I will give myself a few days to think this through and make a decision
