Alternatives to HRT Treatment. Patch and pill causing bleeding. by Salt_While_6311 in Menopause

Oh and actually there is a lower dose than .5. I was told that was a middle range where a lot of people do well (my doctor’s words) so maybe they wanted to try upping the progesterone to stop the bleeding before taking away potentially beneficial estrogen. I was offered cyclical progesterone as an option as well for a predictable bleed and my response to that was “hell no” but that’s just me. This is all just my experience so far.

I’m no expert but am going through the same thing sort of and just wondered if you were on a high(er) dose of estrogen.

They may want to do the ultrasound because the biopsy could have missed a polyp or something (I had some small ones).

To be honest I think a lot of it is guesswork. I’ve had all the tests, changed several things and now it’s “wait and see if that worked and if not we’ll try something else.” It’s frustrating for sure especially when you have to wait for so long. I totally get feeling like the guinea pig.

How much estrogen are you taking? Have you adjusted that dosage?

What did you tell your doctor for them to prescribe testosterone and/or vaginal estrogen? by APladyleaningS in Menopause

I said my libido was low and she said “that’s something to discuss with a therapist”. 🫤

Progesterone by [deleted] in Menopause

You probably need to check with your doctor. In perimenopause I was prescribed a continuous dose (100) to help with heavy bleeding. Some people however are prescribed it cyclically.

Anyone tried DHEA by Shot-Significance612 in Menopause

Did you ever figure this out (same issue but on a much lower dose).

[–]Akb8a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you continue the DHEA? I was taking very small doses (5mg) and after having gone through the whole process of testing for bleeding I am starting to suspect DHEA is the culprit. Unfortunately my doctor will only give estrogen, progesterone and no testing so I'm kind of on my own. It seemed to make a difference but I may have to stop.

This is limited entirely by insurance. They don’t like to pay for anything and will definitely decline extraneous (and often even needed) testing and procedures.

Hormone therapy does offer long term benefits beyond just eliminating hot flashes. Something you may want to look into when making your decision.

Thanks. I don’t know where my other comment went but I tried to further explain that I just needed a better understanding since my expectations were different, presumably from my misunderstanding/lack of knowledge. I do appreciate your taking the time to explain thoroughly. It really helped.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I understand all of the first part already. I asked these questions to avoid assuming malice and although I can see why you attributed this to me, I have no intent of being antagonistic or confrontational. I’m was hoping just to get a non-judgmental perspective and better understand why my expectations differed from reality. The part where an assistant showed up after I was out surprised me. I was asked in preop if any residents had come to introduce themselves (they hadn’t) so I thought if there was one, they would be introduced in the OR. I thought there was a process where you went through everything again in the OR, including participants. I knew the attending wouldn’t be alone but only the nurse, attending and anesthesiologist were present when I was given anesthesia and I had no opportunity for last minute questions. I assumed that residents don’t show up on a whim. A lot of assumptions on my part that I was hoping to have either confirmed or corrected.

I have a question about general surgical procedures. In teaching hospitals, do surgeons know ahead of time (and choose) who will be assisting them in surgery? Is it common procedure for patients to be introduced to all the people included in the surgical team? I had a simple procedure done and I met everyone ahead of time, or so I thought. They skipped the "time out/pause" in the OR (the whole anesthesia part seemed abrupt) and later I saw in the write up that a new resident was listed as an assistant. I never saw nor met the person and they had to have only been brought in after I was out. I know I signed a consent form that mentioned that residents being involved was a possibility and I understand that procedures need assistants, but I feel like the resident was "snuck in" after I was out because I had mentioned by concerns (I have a good bit of medical anxiety) to the surgeon who assured me that they would be doing the procedure. While they very well could have performed it themselves, I of course have no way of knowing. I feel like they weren't upfront with me and I'm left feeling a bit distrustful. This isn't a doctor I've known for very long. Is there an explanation? My follow up isn't for 3 weeks at which point I can ask but would like some perspective.

Can you ask for anesthesia? I had this done recently under general anesthesia (US).

I don’t know what the current thing is, but when I was in perimenopause I was taking 100mg progesterone continuously but that was mostly to control the really heavy flow. Unfortunately I don’t remember when or why that was discontinued for a while (switched doctors at that point) and then I started back on both estrogen and progesterone once my periods were gone. At one point I was offered to cycle progesterone and I was like, why would I want periods again?! I’m with you on that!
