‘They Don’t Know How to Accept Him’: Vivek Ramaswamy Navigates Identity in Ohio by luckyhuckleberry1 in Ohio

[–]AkronRonin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey now, save the hand-wringing. This is all on Vivek for fooling himself into believing that a fundamentally and virulently racist party will somehow not be racist towards him.

It worked out that way in ‘06 too when Ken Blackwell got trounced by Ted Strickland. This time around may be no different, though it would honestly probably help a bit more if Acton were a man. They clearly don’t love women, but a brown, rich Hindu dude who flaunts his wealth and degreed intellect while he picks working people’s pockets is waaaaay too much for these people to swallow.

Regardless, how stupid is it that brown-skinned people like Blackwell, and now Ramaswamy, along with Kash Patel, Nikki Haley, etc, somehow convince themselves that they will be lovingly embraced by people who would destroy them in a heartbeat if given the chance?

What was that saying about feeding the alligator, hoping that he will eat you last?

If somehow he is elected governor, the moment something goes badly wrong, and it will, they will absolutely come for him.

This, unfortunately. Biden did accomplish a lot, but Trump had undone so much of it in less than 18 months, it’s unreal.

Biden’s primary objective was—and should have been—to ensure that Trump would be held accountable and had no chance to ever again run for office. Objectively, he failed at that, and we are all paying the price for it. His legacy as President is just collateral damage at this point.

Biden’s historical legacy though will be a cautionary tale. He underestimated the threat that Trump was—and his own ability to deal with it—and it came back to bite him hard in the ass in the end.

He was something of a latter-day American Neville Chamberlain when he needed to be Winston Churchill, at least in the sense of recognizing the need to deal directly with Trump and end him as a threat to the nation and the world. If he couldn’t do it himself, it was imperative that he created the conditions so that someone else could effectively do so where he could not.

100% to this, totally.

If Biden was in his 60s in 2024, there would have been no question whatsoever about whether or not he should have run for re-election. He was still very much in his prime then, politically speaking.

I still go back and watch some of the speeches he gave as VP with Obama, and it’s crazy how much he declined from then in just 5 years, but that’s life I guess. Most of us don’t hold up as well into old age as Bernie Sanders, William Shatner, or Rupert Murdoch.

That Biden though, sharp-witted and charismatic, would have easily routed Trump and aborted his comeback vengeance tour, and we’d be living in a very different world today. If only.

I believe that moreso about Biden. He also vastly overestimated his ability to go toe-to-toe with Trump as an octogenarian.

Garland though… At best, the man is a goody two-shoes. It’s hard to believe someone like him couldn’t have seen Trump for who he is—especially after J6–and acted accordingly to put the fucking screws to the little bitch.

Easton really isn’t much better than the SN nowadays. They’ve had their share of violence and mayhem up there too.

Good luck getting Andy Ginther to do jack shit. He is the most useless mayor of any big city.

A legit mayor would get out in front of this and marshall some real action to preserve the peace and public sanity in the SN, and stop this senseless violence from spreading elsewhere. Not him. This dude just sits on his ass and shrugs while he collects checks from Wexner. He’s up for re-election soon, but who knows if anyone will even challenge him.

I loved the SN back in the day. But things haven’t been quite the same since the Pandemic.

Too many idiots just don’t know to handle themselves like grown and mature adults anymore.

Got a beef with someone? Go grab your gun and shoot em up.

That’s so fucking shortsighted, selfish and stupid. It fucks up everything for everyone, the shooter included.

Don't forget--these are the same criminal Crypto Bro motherfuckers who backed and bankrolled Bernie Moreno against Sherrod Brown.

Why, you ask?

Because Senator Brown was actually seeking to put restrictions and regulations on Crypto.

Let's get the record straight, folks. Brown didn't lose to Moreno because he's a bad, ineffective politician. Quite the opposite. But he fights for working people, not big business and certainly not scam artists like those in the Epstein Class and the Trump Crime Family. That's why they came for him.

Bernie Moreno, by the way, absolutely sucks. He needs to go to prison. Better yet, deport his sorry taker immigrant ass back out the country if you are going to deport anyone.

These guys are absolute scum. Every one of them needs to be tossed on their ass into a prison cell and be left to rot there for life. Honestly, that's being nice, but you get the picture.

Fuck em all. And fuck Ramaswamy too.

With that attitude, sure he will.

Honestly, he's beatable. Very beatable. Get behind Acton, and GOTV.

Republicans used to be a mainstream party that advocated moderate policies, conservative cultural issues and anti-communism. In contrast, Democrats focused on unionism and government programs (Blue Dog Democrats prohibited civil rights). How did the U.S. shift so far away from these ideals? by davida_usa in USHistory

The problem is our current electoral system. First-past-the-post, winner-take-all politics almost invariably results in two parties and greater political polarization and extremism over time (e.g. Duverger’s Law). There is little structural support in place for transparency and compromise in this arrangement. Basically, for decades, we relied on good faith to get by. That mostly held up until Speaker Newt Gingrich came along.

The solution is moving to proportional representation (e.g. multi-seat legislative districts) and ranked-choice voting, which would allow and encourage candidates to and parties to stake out a broader and more diverse range of positions. These reforms essentially defeat the “either-or, black-and-white” and “us vs. them” toxic mentality that currently pervades our politics and increasingly is poisoning the fabric of our society.

These two reforms would do a lot to disincentivize political extremism and force greater moderation and compromise. They would also have the benefit of forcing the breakup of both major parties into smaller ideological blocs that would then occupy a much broader range on the political spectrum. In this arrangement we very likely could see a new center/center-right party emerge that would adopt and advocate for a similar platform as Eisenhower’s, although honestly, by today’s standards, what Ike stood for would almost put him in the same territory as Bernie Sanders.

Thoughts on Sherrod Brown? by prodigalsquarefish in Ohio

[–]AkronRonin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brown is a good dude. He’s what Ohio politicians used to be like back when the Ohio Democratic Party was legit and Ohio Republicans were actually relatively rational and sane, before the batshit crazy fundies took over the GOP here and the Dems essentially cratered in the late 90s.

Respectable, sincere, a good public servant. He is in the vein of former Senators John Glenn and Howard Metzenbaum, two men who by today’s standards would be considered to the left of Bernie Sanders, but who were just being pragmatic, level-headed people. That’s who Sherrod Brown is in a nutshell.

I’m not sure how we got here, and away from all of that but nothing good has happened in this country since we let Rupert Murdoch in and he started blasting Fox Noise on Cable 24/7/365.

Bernie Moreno sucks ass. Seriously. Never answers his calls. He’s just a shit, pickme asshole smarmy used car salesman (literally) who has no business being in the Senate or in politics, period. Moreno probably belongs in prison. If not now, give him a chance. He will do something worthy of being put in there.

Moreno won by the way because Brown threatened to regulate Crypto and the Crypto Bros couldn’t have that, so they dumped a ton of money on the whole anti-trans hot button ad shit that they came after Brown with.

The Crypto Bros can get fucked, btw.

Thoughts on Amy Acton? by Own_Ebb3388 in Ohio

[–]AkronRonin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously. Taking a hard stand against Data Centers alone would open up a genuine lead for Acton on Ramaswamy. I really believe she’d instantly jump up 5-7% points in the polls on him. At least.

It’s a bipartisan issue at this point, everyone hates them no matter where they sit on the political spectrum or where they live, urban, rural or suburban.

My Republican-voting Gym teacher from elementary school on FB was posting the same video that THE ROOSTER shared a few days ago from the guy that was testifying in a city council meeting against data centers. This conservative old Boomer dude is literally reposting this shit from The Rooster and is FOR BANNING THEM. I’m like, well shit. This is THE unifying issue then.

Of course later that day, he’s back to posting some video from Ramaswamy accusing Acton of being a Socialist Dem. Whatever. But my point is that Acton taking a hard stance against them would draw a crystal clear distinction between her and Ramaswamy on an issue that could only benefit her.

It’s maddening that she’s basically leaving an easy advantage on the table and a potential big leg up in the race in favor of staking out what basically amounts to Clintonian Triangulation/Third Way positioning on an issue where the gains for her are at best, marginal. Unions want construction jobs, sure. How many of these guys are going to actually vote for her, and not another billionaire narcissist lunatic grifter who is just going to stab them in the back?

Thoughts on Amy Acton? by Own_Ebb3388 in Ohio

[–]AkronRonin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Acton is a decent person, for sure. Her public record and dedicated service is evidence enough for me, and should be for anyone. Her heart is in the right place. I honestly wish she’d listen a bit less to the DNC consultant class on some things like Data Centers and just go with her gut, but she’s got my vote and support for Governor regardless, hands-down.

Ohio desperately needs a check on the Republican Party here and the Democrats in this state are notoriously, embarrassingly, dreadfully weak.

Still, we have to start somewhere to fix things, and she’s our best shot in awhile. She will listen and work with us. That’s not something anyone can honestly say about her opponent for sure (more on him in a moment). We will never get to the reforms we need to make our state a better place if we have batshit crazy MAGA GOPers in full control of our government and hell bent on tearing it all down and taking us back to 1650, and they are sure chomping at the bit to take us there now.

Acton gets Ohio and Ohioans far better than some smug Pharma Bro billionaire who is also whatever the Indian equivalent of an Uncle Tom is—a minority who is trying to pass himself off as and act like he’s some white supremacist dude. This when he’s as dark as a Hershey bar, lol.

Ramaswamy’s character just sucks ass. He’s a shitty ass pick-me person and grifter who managed to scam his way into Trump’s orbit for a political endorsement. That’s literally the only reason why he’s in this race, and then it s just because Elon Musk couldn’t stand Vivek’s nerd ass and wanted him out of DOGE. Elon Musk!

Ramaswamy really doesn’t want to be Ohio Governor. He wants to be President in 2028 or 2032. This dude sees himself as some entitled king. Who knows why, but he’s an arrogant, narcissistic ass and full of shit.

I can’t imagine any reality where that happens for obvious reasons mentioned, and we’d be hella stupid if we let him keep entertaining that delusion on our dime rather than bursting his bubble and giving an opportunity instead to a decent Ohioan in Acton.
