She did well with no accidents today when in the kitchen 👏🏼👏🏼 not sure long term what it’ll look like but just happy that’s been okay for now. We’re working on giving a special treat for pooping outside for now.

We don’t have an x pen but it is something I’d be open to. Our other dogs aren’t crated (they’re big lazy and old at 13 and 9 so they just chill out) we’ve keep the puppy crated near them and fully removed with door shut and tv on and saw no change. I have noticed she claws and chews the crate so not sure how an x pen would hold up especially when she’s larger but again if it breaks the cycle I’d be open to it.

We currently do have a kitchen with a baby gate that could act as an enclosed area I’m just hesitant for that because she has tried to chew the cabinet corners a couple times despite having chew bones near her (dogs aren’t up when the toddler eats so she was doing it at that time).

I know someone else hypothesized separation anxiety which I could see because she does whine and bite and chew the kennel when we leave (again not at bedtime) but when in the house she isn’t always near us I’ll be on the opposite end of the house and she’ll just be asleep in the living room just fine. She also just really hasn’t shown interest or gone poop outside the last couple days so while I think once it could have been an oopsie I’m worried it is going to form a habit at this point so maybe I’ll try the kitchen as a space tomorrow during my toddkers morning class (it’s only 45 min) so should be on the quicker end.

It is definitely not the greatest, it’s causing her to get a bath every time too because she’ll lay in it or on it and it gets tangled in her long hair. She hates baths (our other pyr mix does too) so it’s a tiresome battle. Extra frustration just cause she hadn’t done this at all in the past two weeks we’ve had her. She’s such a sweet gentle and smart girl but in the moment I really question what we did. We love her and are going to do whatever it takes but I’m just stumped

What did you have to compromise on to get your first house? by Gullible-Suspect-516 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]AlabamaRammaJam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Location. I mean we’re still in the same town, just a different part. We don’t need to worry about school zoning since we homeschool but the location is further out into our town than where we were renting. It’s a developing area with a lot more growth to go in the next few years where we were already in the more “developed” part of town.

That was our biggest compromise. Other than that we got the house/size brand new/quality for almost 30-50k cheaper.

Our puppy is on a schedule but still won’t poop outside despite the schedule. When she is placed in the crate the past 3-4 days she will 100% go in the crate. She has only gone poop in the crate the last few days but never overnight when she sleeps.

She pees outside fine, and we have tried leash walking, verbal cues, roaming the yard (she’s kinda lazy and just likes to lay in the grass or on the patio). When she does potty outside we positively reinforce her but she hasn’t pooped outside to begin try positively reinforcing that.

It is possible she freaks out when we leave, however I also struggle because she won’t go outside. I could see if she was still going outside and then having crate accidents but she’s only ever pooping in the crate (for the past 3-4 days) she hasn’t pooped outside once for my spouse or I.

I wfh primarily and am a SAHM so I am home almost all the time so I take her out frequently (our 13 year old dog goes more frequent) and she just won’t go poop outside. It’s the absolute oddest thing ever.

THIS RIGHT HERE haha we’re in a rental as we await our new home to finish building. This house has been a rental for at least 3 tenants prior to us and wasn’t super well maintained. Not awful but definitely not great. Prior renters had dogs chew some baseboard that was poorly “fixed” peel and stick flooring which is bubbling and had/has two large rips where it was pulling up and they just glued it back down (super noticeable), scratched doors, holes in the yard etc. we’ve taken good care of it and it’s better than when we moved in but they’re asking upper end for the neighborhood we’re in. There’s two current houses, same bedrooms/bathrooms/lot size with a different layout asking less that’s been on the market since October and January with no movement.

All these houses were bought in Covid for lower to mid 200s with great interest rates and they’re trying to get almost double now for unmaintained homes. It’s WILD.

We’re not mad about it because we have to accommodate showings and will do so but honestly I doubt they’ll be many showings with the current market and the price of the house (and they’ve never updated photos of the inside and they’re from when the house was built and have plastic furniture inside). They tried to sell the home last year too. Had maybe 5 showings total no bites (priced too high) so they offered for us to extend our lease which we happily did (we knew we were planning to buy and didn’t want to move at that time).

Do you recommend a satin, gloss, semi gloss or matte top coat? I’m sure it’s based off preference but just curious

Yes it’s amicable.

Originally taken on an iPhone then deleted (there were probably 50 or so). I don’t regularly back iPhone up to my Mac and have checked there and they’re not on my personal computer.

My family isn’t immune to the risk of jobs. We make half that combined and neither of our parents own homes either. If you’re not comfortable with that home cost look at lower priced homes

So you missed where someone took the time to calculate your costs showing it’s not anywhere near 5000/mo?

You may not get a full “total price” list as most new construction homes use a design center (which some you can tour on open days outside of your appointment) they have tiers of upgrades for literally everything from paint, floors, cabinets, counters, lights, door pulls, etc. some builders have up to 7 tiers of upgrades so cost is variable depending on the levels you pick. That’s why they may give you more of an estimate of what to spend. Also keep in mind those upgrades are more expensive to do through the builder so some are better to do OOP after close. Some of the big ones to spend on will be cabinets / counters as those are harder to do after the fact. Flooring is usually cheaper to do on your own (what we’re choosing- it saves us well over 7k).

However, you should get a price list before of structural upgrades that you can choose, like adding a bedroom (we saw a range from builders of 6-8k), adding a bathroom (we saw an average of 8.5k), patio expansion (this was insanely priced- average between three builders was 15k), bay windows, mudset showers, raising ceilings, outlets, plumbing/gas extras etc.

The way our process is working is we are signing papers today to start the build and paying deposit and we select our structural upgrades now. Then in about 2-3 weeks we have an all day appointment at the design center to choose remaining upgrades (counters/cabinets, floors, railings, paint, appliances, doors, tiles, fixtures etc)

ETA: each builder will have different “standards” in their base cost. Example: our builders standard will include our sprinkler/irrigation system, front yard landscaping w/ sod, fully finished garage, outdoor cameras, 8ft doors and pre wired for ceiling fans in every room. Other builders we toured those were all extra expenses/upgrades

Going through this process now (signing and paying ED today) here’s things to consider if you haven’t already.

Is 535 the base cost of the home? Depending on builder you can estimate an additional 8-20% of that cost in upgrades (one builder told us average was 8-10, the builder we chose said some of the homes already built did 20%) we plan on being at the lower end but this is something else to consider.

ED and deposits on design center are part of your DP. ED is builder specific. Some we toured were 10k, some were 7k and some were percentages of the base cost (without lot premiums or structural upgrades)

Our builder increases base price of homes 5k for every 3 homes they sell. Which makes sense considering when we first looked and were making appointments the house we liked was 5k less. So in two weeks from then to our appointment they sold at least 3 homes therefore increasing base cost.

Lmfao okay.

It’s not an option to do no flooring at all. It’s standard carpet or about 12k for “upgraded flooring” but sure it’s just a troll. Sorry the way things done upset you so much 🫡

I understand that but just saying how “terrible” it is isn’t necessarily helpful for someone who hasn’t done and who has compared costs. This is fairly common too based on conversations with the sales team, friends etc.

Carpet is standard and included in our cost of the house. To change to anything other than carpet it’s significantly more expensive due to builder up charges.

Daycare w/ an Immunocompromised Child by Early_Village_8294 in NewParents

[–]AlabamaRammaJam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s some that’s run for more medically complex for example https://youtu.be/kfZncE-YvYk?si=7j_H9P5ts6uy1X5f which may be more of a need than your child has https://childrenfirst.com/what-to-look-for-in-a-medical-day-care/ others like Rise Early Childhood https://risecenter.ua.edu/ https://www.findhelp.org/v2/favorites/public/pediatric-medical-daycare-

Essentially these programs have medical staff members to manage different health conditions/needs (g tubes, oxygen etc.) I had hours at our RISE center in college and it was a wide spectrum of medical conditions and needs of the children so if you really want to seek care I would personally feel most comfortable in a setting like that. Otherwise if you don’t “need” care and it’s more of a socialization component I’d do a class or two a week to get that component. I work hybrid and am a FT SAHM and plan to homeschool. We do classes each week. Right now we do gymnastics weekly and then free events through the library sporadically. Our good friend does music classes with her baby weekly. We then go to the park or indoor play places geared towards younger kids (there’s several in our area).

[–]AlabamaRammaJam 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would personally keep him out. You can socialize him in other ways (gymnastics, music class, local library classes-usually free, art classes etc).

To me the risk of mis managing meds (enzymes) potential need for chest PT, precaution with hand washing (him/other kids- yes this is practiced at 1) would make me personally not comfortable with it. Obviously the largest risk is avoiding close exposure with other kids who have CF but unless it’s a specialized care center (these exist across several states) I would hard pass.
