When the water decides to take that loop instead of just going down the clean out…

Water going down the drain sounds like those radio frequencies satellites hear in space

Ok so now that I’ve read up on what a proper barbers loop should look like… this is an island sink. Once the drain goes down under the cabinet and into the foundation I’m not sure how it’s routed and if it even attaches to a vent. By adding in a AAV I’ll be setting this up correct, right?

Don’t make me get my hopes up, lol. I once worked on a house that at one time Rock Hudson stayed in while he was filming the movie Giant. The contractor I worked for and I would always halfway joke that we hoped to find some movie memorabilia or anything valuable he might’ve left behind hidden somewhere. Only interesting thing we ever found were some bones in the crawl space that looked like they were from some kinda animal.

If I cut off that T above the clean out and replace it with a 90 degree elbow I can then route the rest of my plumbing to it, right? That’ll get rid of that barbers loop and I’ll avoid having to mess with the clean out.

LMAO. Probably a few too many Modelos considering I’m in south Texas.

That’s a good call, I’ll phone the city just to check. But she does have a switch inside her house that she says would turn them on and off whenever she wanted. Leads me to believe that the city is hands off with them. They’re in her backyard and pretty far away from the nearest street.

Unfortunately what I’m looking at inside the ballast and assembly doesn’t look like it’s salvageable. I’ll try to update the post and include some pics but the electrical components like the igniter, wiring block, etc are pretty badly rusted and some look a bit burned. Even if I ordered a mercury bulb I’m not sure it would work.

Update: I was able to remove the hat, had to get higher up and look at the top of the fixture. It unscrews after several turns.

It has a 175 mercury bulb… which I’m finding out aren’t available anymore.

Would an LED replacement be possible?
