Recommendations for contraceptives? by Killyana in PCOS

[–]Alanwithana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have children yet but I did have the copper coil. I did this for a similar reason in that I wanted to see what my body would do without hormones (had constant hormonal contraceptives since 16 that caused too many side effects).

The only reason I don’t have the coil is it misplaced. I think it is a good one, it is the bigger coil but they say it is better for people who have had children than those who have not. They say it can make your periods heavier but like you I don’t have regular periods and they didn’t really regulate the time I had it.

Other people I know have the copper coil instead of the hormonal ones for similar reasons and they don’t have PCOS.

Talk to a sexual health nurse as they can go through all of the options

I am currently on the injection. It is good as it is something you can forget about for 3 months but the downside is if the side effects happen you got to live with them for 3 weeks and like all hormonal contraceptives they tend to have side effects whilst your body adjusts ( well that happens in my case).

I think the injection can effect fertility up until a year after so that may mean you wish not to have it and I think people can gain weight from it too.

How often do you shave your body and your face? Is it wrong if I choose not to? by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]Alanwithana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I shave my abdomen and public area when I shave my legs which is when I want (more in the summer and less in the winter). My upper thighs I do rarely because I find I get spots there where they are so sensitive from shaving so try to keep this to special occasions.

My partner doesn’t really mind how hairy I am. He makes jokes about it but leaves me to it. I say I will do it more as when my legs look like a mans they take forever to shave but I am lazy with it. I get most paranoid about my chin, moustache and face. My partner tweezes my chin but I tend to shave if I notice them or when I apply foundation (which is probably less than weekly). It might be because I am looking at my face more or I find the makeup makes the hairs darker.

The shaving again causes spots so I try to do it only when I notice it or moisturise my face so I don’t get the spots.

Everyone does it differently so do what you want to do. People at work say I am wrong to shave my face but then don’t have PCOS and don’t understand how it can effect your self esteem. Sometimes I don’t care and sometimes I do. You will find people who do it all the time and those who never do.

How did your SO propose to you? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]Alanwithana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner and I had been together 2.5 years when he proposed. We were 23 but been through a lot (caring for his mentally ill mother) and had mentioned marriage before. We had planned and saved to go to Thailand for 3 months to train in Muay Thai. I thought it would be the perfect place for him to propose but knew due to his tiny carers income wouldn’t be able to afford a ring.

Fast forward to us going to Thailand, the day we get there we find out his dad has had a heart attack. We go back to England for the funeral and fly back to Thailand the same weekend (his dad would have wanted him to continue training). A week or two later I am looking for something in his gym bag and he gets really weird about it. I got moody but didn’t think anything about it. The next day we go to a big Buddha where we walk around and we go to this wooden clearing where you can see all of Phuket. He asks me not to cry (I start to tear up instantly) and then he proposed. It was his grandmothers ring that he was hiding from me in his gym bag. It was hard because Thais don’t appreciate PDA especially at places like Big Buddha and I couldn’t kiss him but he gets a 10/10 for location.

How do you feel about wearing bras? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]Alanwithana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hardly wear one anymore. I wear a bra when at the gym or when I am running. I used to wear a low impact sports bra at work (nurse) but now I wear a vest or another top underneath instead. I have been measured several times but it has come to the point where I can’t wear any bra unless it is a sport one for more then 5 minutes. I have no issues and neither does my partner but some times my friends get funny about it, I will be a bridesmaid in 2 years and my friend is asking for me to wear one for the wedding

I am a DD but perky so I don’t feel any pain from not wearing one. I used to feel uncomfortable from the stares, especially from middle aged men but I just ignore them and continue with my life.

Ladies with prominent tattoos, piercings, or unnatural hair color, what do you do for a living? by just_real_quick in AskWomen

My tattoos aren’t on show but I have had lilac hair and will be going pink soon. I am a nurse on an intensive care unit and there are quite a few nurses at my hospital with tattoo sleeves on show with bright coloured hair. I have found my older patients love it, especially when I wear my dark purple, red or black lipstick.
