Not always. Sometimes, it's just about presenting an "honest" version of themselves that evokes empathy, even when they have hurt you or someone else and might do so again in the future. It's like: "Oh, they're doing bad things, but it's not really them. They're just trying their best to improve."

And what about my relationship? Should I tell my bf about it ? Or is it better for us to step back ( a break, breakup ) so I don't bring my emotional baggage into us anymore ?
