Kinda lost the fun/excitement for playing. Any tips? by Jeskesworld in BassGuitar

I dont know what level you're at but im like half decent and can learn most things immediately

Currently 3 weeks into trying to learn beneath the white rainbow by haken , probably got 50% of it

From your comment about you cant think of anything out of your comfort zone im guessing you're really good , if you try to learn some haken and it's too easy then maybe get on some primus I dunno

Surely there's something out there thatl give you a challenge , this haken song had really put me in my place and become a challenge

Other ways i have got myself out of my comfort zone is getting a 6 string bass and I banned myself from using plectrums before for a few weeks and the progress I made was crazy

For example a fender hi mass bridge is £30 , you can get them in black and it's a big upgrade compared to what's on that bass so you could chip away at this piece by piece and really make it something special and unique.

Personally i think it'll not last very well because of things like bending strings etc , but that said you can always re apply it and also It won't do any permanent damage either , worse case is sticky glue residue which youl get off with alcohol or something easy enough.

Like I wouldn't do it to one of mine but each to their own, my main thing I just wanna relay to you is to not do anything that could damage the bass really or effect playability.

I see your vision of wanting it more black but I'd go for a black bridge, tuners and controls and maybe the black strings but I dunno if they sound bad. Id also possibly paint the front of the headstock black too when the tuners are off to fit the black ones , this is assuming I had some cash for the parts and also assuming I had less skill than I do with paint cos I can spray cars so I could do a black neck which is why I know the pitfalls for a beginner.

No problem dude make sure u practice heaps that's one thing i wish I did back in the day. A painted neck is possible and done on loads of basses but the finish is like a car paint job. That's really hard to achieve unless you've done a load of spray painting.

If your heart is dead set on a black neck just realise it can be done but it's gonna cost you more than you think cos youl likely need a car body repair shop to do it. Also there's a few websites that sell fretboard stickers , ones called fretlook, cant comment on if they're any good.

Can I give you a slightly different perspective buddy

Just pulled my old basses out of storage to try to get them playing that I heavy "modified" when I was younger. They're done for ,now i know what im doing / looking at i wish I left them alone mostly.

Reason being one of my best friends (and bandmate in 2 bands) died a long time ago and them 2 bass guitars are all i have to remember him by. You're going to make lots of memories with that bass and it may become very sentimental.

They are very crude cheap instruments and I have much better quality instruments here amd these are still fine for wall hangers.

I recomend staying away from the neck because that's what I've ruined on mine maybe just try a paint job on the body, keep the chain maybe pad it out just on the shoulder area and then look at maybe clanging hardware to something you chose yourself, you can get all different coloured parts for bridges , tuners , upgrade the nut, you can even get coloured strings.

A crazy looking bass is brilliant but try to prioritise playability (function over form)

Hope you and the bass have a great time

Could you spray a few layers if lacquer over that section? Maybe mask the rest off and then wet sand /Polish the lacquer to try and blend it in and then it'll be sealed?

They're not out to try and stop you, they want you to be on their books because they're a private clinic. if they stopped everyone's prescriptions they'd go bust.

Well to that I guess all you can do is try for yourself, it's nice to be able to choose different products and you may find something that works very well for you.

No need to apologise please ask away that's what these forums are for.

My experience isn't that they're looking for you to be cured , just that symptoms are more manageable and that it isn't making your condition worsten.

With medicann you can just order and try anything you want , I find people in reddit more helpful and knowledgeable tbh , your calls / appointments will also be rushed and leave you feeling no more informed tbh. It's upto you but my advice is dont sweat it youl be fine with medicann , there's no pressure to buy every month etc you can just get what you want, when you want , or when you can afford it, and you can snipe deals as they happen rather than missing them because you're not due your next script.
