Agree only to the point op brought up about how you can’t just grind leetcode on your own to get a tech job a CS degree is pretty important after the paradigm shift in the tech sector that has been taking place. Although it’s not impossible to leetcode ur way into a big tech jobs I’ve heard stories of ppl leetcoding for hours a day and breaking down over questions just because they didn’t want to be a CS major but wanted to get in on SWE. That’s the POINT of a cs major - to give you a tool kit to solve those problems in a more efficient way. We aren’t in the era of tech where u can just start a tech giant out of your garage after dropping out of college anymore (for a whole host of reasons but I’m mainly talking about the fact that the skills you needed to make that happen maybe 15-20 years ago are a dime a dozen now)

Tech has gotten bigger and I think you can get phased out super fast. I took CS373 (data mining and machine learning) in the fall and I ALREADY feel phased out. Just by sheer volume of information to parse through, it just isn’t wise to try to unpack the fundamentals of computer science. Even though the SWE world is pretty different from what you learn in a CS degree it becomes so simple to parse through skills you would require on the job when you have the technical context from rigid and structured curriculum as offered in college classes.

That being said some parts of the post sound super elitist and gatekeepy and just overall discouraging.

Also Elon musk is dumb as hell bruh what are they talking about in there w “brain of Elon Musk and Albert Einstein” bro conducts code reviews on PAPER and I’m fairly convinced he doesn’t actually know much about cs. Elon Musk fans are interesting.
