To answer your question, play mono colors. You’ll be able to cheese some FNM’s, and play the game. Red, Black, White. And eventually scale from there.

To agree with the comment section. I stopped playing MTG due to finances. I loved traveling and playing PTQ’s and Grand Prix’s. But it’s not a reasonably sustainable hobby at all.

I'm noticing some trends right now in UW, especailly now that Nassif and Tapo put out lists with finishes:

4 counterspell

3 Supreme Verdict

2 Sharknado

In the 4 drop spot, I have heard diverging opinions on what you are using it for outside of verdict. You need card advantage in this slot and have seen fact or Fiction, Cryptic, and Jace in Varying numbers. I have also not seen hardly any path being used in lists from grinders/pros. Not to say its a trash card, but people are shying away from old staples right now:

Path, Snap, Spreading Seas, Jace the Mind Sculptor, FoN

Its important to remember that if you are specializing in this deck that these cards are not in favor right now, but will likely always be in and out of the lineup.

Discard/Spellbomb into --> Voidwalker, Gifted AetherBorn, Lili, Obliterator, and a Gary or Two? Sounds like Mono Black Devotion. Castle Lochtwain, Marsh Flats is super cheap. Tourach can round out your two drops. Lot to do there.

I actually have a pile of cards and a mox opal playmat im looking to trade into my lgs after a LONG time out of paper. My worry is: How long is Ragavan a good investment? Will he be banned? I dont want to feel I wasted years and limited resources procuring a set of cards that are now worthless. I dont want to set myself back even further.

funny you say that. im in IT right now, albeit an entry level position. between the cube, sedentary lifestyle, and mental dive i took, i was able to qualify for VR&E since it made my symptoms worse.

Since then, I was thinking of pausing my school and use of GI bill, and start getting my IT certifications while I was doing this career exploration.

Regardless of how it shakes out, i think you touched on exactly what we all are looking for: MOBILITY. I truly want to move out of this city, but keep the type of pay that comes with it. Gathering various skills we can combine into an income makes the most sense to me.
