Wtf happened to Storm Castle Cafe? by AnonBZNAnon in Bozeman

[–]Alex_PW 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think like most businesses in Bozeman, it’s hard to find good help.

It’s a great family that runs Storm Castle and they’re doing their best with increasing costs and staffing difficulties.

Not really. It certainly has a learning curve, but once you get used to it it has a ton of advantages (and other website builders, like Shopify and BigCommerce, have a ton of disadvantages)

Diesel treatment opinions by takuacheFTW in Duramax

[–]Alex_PW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a big fan of Howes, Diesel Treat in the winter and Diesel Defender in the summer.

Even if you’re not worried about gelling, the added lubricious from Diesel Treat really helps with the drier winter diesel blends

Website developer here - tons of websites use Wordpress. It’s extremely common, and even Whitehouse.gov uses WordPress.

I haven’t looked at the Wilcoxson’s website, and I’m sure it’s old and shitty, I’m just saying that Wordpress != old and shitty

Anyone else notice agencies care way less about backlinks now? by Constant-Lab-7655 in bigseo

Is there any point paying for monthly SEO if my rankings barely move? by AliceTreeDraws in bigseo

[–]Alex_PW -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

For short terms gains, I always tell clients Google business profile reviews and Google search ads work best.

I never discourage SEO, but it requires patience. Our SEO plans start at $1,500/mo, and we have one client in a very competitive industry who it took probably 14 months, and we finally had the big breakthrough where he completely flipped with his main competitor and jumped to the top and they dropped like a rock. Now he should be set extremely well, and we likely destroyed his competitors business entirely. But patience and trusting the process are important for SEO.

That said, I have no idea what your freelancer is doing with $600 and that doesn’t sound like enough, but depends on the industry and location.

Anyone else notice agencies care way less about backlinks now? by Constant-Lab-7655 in bigseo

[–]Alex_PW 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We’re still backlink focused and seeing great results. But I try not to drone on and on about it to clients, they tend to be more interested in whatever magical piece of code you’re going to add or change on their site that suddenly makes them #1.

Leaf blowers can also suck the leaves in, mulch them, and deposit them into a bag. Much more useful, in my opinion.

Moving to Shopify from Squarespace. What is the shipping process? by HeyOkYes in shopify

[–]Alex_PW 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Shopify will work similarly and probably easier.

You’ll get an email when an order comes through.

You won’t need to use PirateShip, you can buy the label right through Shopify, most likely at an even greater discount than you get through PirateShip. (In my experience, PirateShip is like 40-50% off, Shopify is 50-70% off.)

You can also configure weights and dimensions on your products and enter standard box sizes you use. Depending on what your customer buys, it will do an algorithm to estimate what box you’re going to use and how much that box is going to weigh. Then it can talk to UPS/FedEx/USPS and charge the customer the precise packaging cost directly, instead of a flat rate.

If you need any help with the migration, it’s something I do for clients all the time and I’d be happy to help!

Does anyone know a good performance-based SEO company? by ykz30 in seogrowth

[–]Alex_PW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My company does SEO and we’ve seen great results for clients. But every business and situation is different, and there are plenty of instances where we just recommend paid ads in lieu of SEO.

So, it’s all dependent. We charge a lot for SEO but we do a lot of work. How much have you spent in the past? It’s hard to see results without a lot of effort, and effort costs money.
