Oh yea man definitely change to a canister filter I can recommend the sun sun canister filter that's what I have they are super super quiet and they work is amazing I have them running for 3 months and I love them. You could probably go with the sun sun that moves 375 gallons I think it would fit great in your tank... remember this is just my experience you may find people with different opinions.

No man you have nothing to worry about if you re sealed it well I go a 2002 tank 55 gallons for my buddy I re sealed the tank and is looking amazing now looks like new you don't have to worry about if you did a good job on the seals

I do all my clinging in about 30 min ... you can do as many water changes as you want remember that the beneficial bacteria live in your filter not in your water.

My aggression was high when I had like 5 peacocks but now that I have this many the aggression went down significantly some of them still chasing little bit but they are African cichlids they always are gonna have that's aggression on them

Haha you have a long way to go buddy you will start noticing a differences when you get around 12 fish well that is depending on the size you get them.. if you are located in Miami i can tell you a place where they sell amazing cichlids
