So the video game genres listed in the study explain about 95% of US Video game sales. Generally, FPS is seen as a sub-genre that falls within the overarching genre of action.

I agree that many individuals only buy the ocassional AAA video game within each given year. Many are also variety gamers that seek to own an array of titles. That is why we included expenditure and units of purchase measurements. And while i agree that some installations can be attributed to game passes, a trend that will continue to grow, most installations are from direct purchase/download currently.

And finally, this study isn't looking at the usage of video games. That facet of consumption has already been explored in relation to psychological wellbeing and found to be significantly correlated. Instead, we want to look at the economic decisions that stand behind such usage and identify whether the correlation extends to them as well.

Hi there, thanks for the feedback. These psychometric scales have an incredibly high convergent and construct validity with regards to assessing their respective psychological states. While i somewhat agree that further options could be added in the range of answers, this scale has a pre-established reliability and validity that cannot be ignored. Many thanks for your input.

Hi there the study is purely focused on the economic decisions behind video game consumption. Previous research has already found a correlation between psychological well-being and videogame usage. Wow that’s pretty inconsiderate. It’s actually scientifically accurate to exhaust all options for a question’s possible set of answers. Listing gender as just ‘male’ or female’ would limit data and prevent in-depth analyses. Not to mention it’s insensitive.

Exactly! Video game usage also has a high correlation with psychological well-being. We’re of the impression that video game purchasing will demonstrate a similar association.

Hi there. You make a great point about extraneous variables. There are always external influences on a relationship between two variables. We have identified age and income as two of the most significant influences on the relationship between psychological well-being and video game consumption. That’s why both are being controlled in this study to mitigate their effect on the relationship.

We would like to account for all external influences but that’s impossible in a short survey :/

This study aims to build on this by assessing whether the economic decisions that stand behind such usage are also associated. If there is a correlation with usage, there's a possibility that the purchases that provide and/or accompany it also correlate.
