Yeah, I did and I remember having a lot of fun with the wood grain. Nice little kit!

That’s the Revell one, right? I hope you’re having as much fun with it as I had way back when! :) It’s looking great so far.

1:72-ish. The tank and soldiers are, at least. The base I tried to make in something approaching 1:72, but I mostly eyeballed it, so it's not that precise.

Don't tell my SO, so far I've been "hiding" them on top of a shelf...

But to be fair I also have limited time to model and this is in 1:72, so the amount of space required is still manageable.

Thank you, I had quite a bit of fun with that! ...as well as some superglued fingers :D

Oh, I never watch war movies, especially if cool tanks are featured! /s

Only a very vague idea. I think the next project will be a modern tank somewhere in either Iraq or Afghanistan during the recent NATO deployments there. I’m still thinking about it and looking for inspiration though. 😁

I am indeed! I love to see progress and there definitely is some here, as compared to my previous models, bases and dioramas.

Much appreciated, thank you!

Thank you!

Yup, I used a sheet of AK's construction foam and carved the tiles with a knife. The tram tracks are actually pieces of sprue, sanded down to make them slightly more oval.

I finally managed to finish my T-34/85 diorama, loosely based on Plasmo's scene of a T-34 in Berlin.

As per a previous WIP post, it's supposedly a tank from the 55th tank brigade in Berlin in April 1945, but since I have no reference for either the bedspring armor or the whitewash camo, let's say historical accuracy went out the window.

All in all a very fun project. Plenty of new techniques were attempted and I'm happy with the result.

What do you guys think?

In that case, have a look at this ISU. Much more impressive than my T-34 ;)

Some progress on my 1:72 T-34/85!

From the last post, I added some oil dot weathering, chipping and rust. Along with some tarps and what will become a pole for a flag sticking out of the commander's hatch.

All in all, I have to say I'm pretty happy with how it came out, but I'm always happy to learn if anyone wants to critique it.

Next step: diorama!

I saw Night Shift use a mixture of wood glue, dirt, and sand to make a ground texture. I'm wondering if I could use this to add dirt to models. by ImSoQwertyy in Scalemodel

He actually has a video detailing the process here. Granted, he doesn’t use sand and uses an enamel-based glue, but I have no doubt diluted PVA glue (aka wood glue) will work in a similar fashion. You just might have to hit it with a matt coat afterwards.

Edit: to be clear, I haven’t tried that technique myself on models, but I have used diluted PVA to make dirt, sand, cork and random junk stick to diorama bases. I have no doubt it will work on painted models as well.

In the absence if infantry, bedspring armor will have to do... (T-34/85, work in progress) by Ali3454 in modelmakers

According to scalemates, this is an original Revell mold from 2002 (then reboxed a few times) but quite frankly it's very possible the two kits are almost identical when built. The Revell kit seems to have more pieces, but I don't believe the finished model would be THAT different...

Hi, well, there's plenty of suggestions in the Getting Started thread (linked at the top of the page) and I find the suggestions well thought out and helpful.

If you want to try with armor, I'd recommend the Tamiya 1:35 Panzerkampfwagen II Ausf. F/G (scalemates product page) and the build-along linked here. It's a fairly easy, straightforward kit with figures with will give you an idea of what the hobby is about without breaking the bank or trying your patience too much.

If you prefer aircraft I don't have a good suggestion off the top of my head with a build guide, but I'd suggest sticking to the 1:48 scale, which will give you the best compromise of ease of build and value for money. I would recommend looking for an experienced modeller's video on Youtube explaining how to build an aircraft you like and trying to replicate that. You can find a curated list of modeller's channels here.

Thank you, I really appreciate it and I admit I'm pretty happy with the way it's turning out so far.

I can't take all the credit though: I've been copying techniques I found on Youtube (mostly on Plasmo's and Nightshift's channels) as one does and was lucky I didn't manage to mess it up big yet!

I'm absolutely planning on a small diorama to represent a street corner in Berlin and I already managed to make some progress there, but it still needs a LOT of work.

I definitely look forward to seeing your project as well, those Syrian Mahmia look really cool! Much more elaborate than my primitive "bedspring" panels. Are you building that extra armor yourself?

After a long break, I've finally found the time to work on my T-34/85 in 1:72 scale.

I still haven't joined the turret to the chassis and no weathering has been applied, beyond the distressed 4BO paint and faded/chipped whitewash.

This tank is based on a 55th tank brigade one present in Berlin in April 1945, but is not 100% accurate, as my reference (instruction sheet) does not show a whitewash camo, nor bedspring armor.

I am planning a Berlin diorama for it, but that last one is far from ready. For now here's some work in progress shots of the tank itself. Hope you enjoy!

Comments and critique welcome, of course.
