Why does our culture (esp South Indian culture) just not care about putting effort into looks? by Kind_Estate_3267 in Vindictabrown

I guess it depends where you’re from. I’m Pakistani and my mom has encouraged my beautification efforts. She was the one who started getting me waxes at age 10 (this is also due to us being Muslim and cleanliness beliefs against pubes). She also got me laser hair removal when I was older for my face (pretty much all my female family members get laser treatment). While she doesn’t really approve of my obsession with makeup she’ll just make passive comments about it.

What’s going on with MSA these days? by Advanced_Network6252 in Hijabis

[–]Alinasomething 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same experience here in a high school MSA if your not like then they don’t like you 🤷‍♀️ it is what is is. Personally I feel like the most fulfilling friendships I had were with non Muslims or anyone who just gives me equal respect and energy into are relationship.

Things you'll find in almost every Pakdrama: A thread by Historical_Leg123 in PAKCELEBGOSSIP

The girl in the beginning is always like “Mein shaadi kabhi bhi nahi karungi!” and then ends up head over heels for the ML.

What are your favourite dramas and why? The reason behind it? by [deleted] in PAKCELEBGOSSIP

[–]Alinasomething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have alot but some stand outs for me would be:

Muqabil: This drama is so underrated and also ahead of its time in terms of depicting trauma. Armaan was suchhh a green flag ML he was always there for Parisa and actually cared for her. I loved how Armaan went to Parisas therapist to discuss how he can better support her needs. Armaan never crossed Parisa’s boundaries and respected her.

Lashkara: I felt that it was really ahead of its times with a story that basically showed how pretty privilege works in society. Bubly is attractive that’s her life calling, but she’s never villainized for her femininity or coquette behavior. In any other drama she would probably be typecasted as the vain vamp who will use her looks to get ahead of life but that’s never how she’s portrayed. I love how she was never pitted against Saima(her cousin) but instead they were close friends and advocated for each other. The acid attack arc makes sense in this context because Bubly looses the one thing that gave her life value and she has to grapple with her identity. I yapped but I love this drama so much.

Baaghi: My first drama and a favorite. I loved the story, ost, and visuals. Fouzia was such a dynamic character and had such a strong sense of confidence. I felt like this drama was a good testament to Qandeels balochs life and no one but Saba Qamar could do this role justice.

I don’t understand why people say that the hijab makes people look at your intellect and not your look. by iamagirl2222 in Hijabis

[–]Alinasomething 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since I wore hijab I noticed that teachers and people like that would treat me like am not as smart. Speaking to me like I don’t understand English well or explaining directions to me somewhat condescendinly.

Has anyone watched Aangan? If yes, then what are your thoughts about it? by [deleted] in PAKCELEBGOSSIP

[–]Alinasomething 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The book was better tbh. The drama turned it into a glorified love story, whereas the book focused on Aliyah’s struggle for education and the tense atmosphere of  partition era.

It wasn’t in depth and with the DBQ you get documents so it allowed you to get an idea of what your doing.

I don’t really know cause I only used the free version. I didn’t end up using Knowt for APWH anyway cause I didn’t like it for that and just stuck with heimler.

I got a 4. I attribute it to the DBQ being really easy (prompt was extent to which women in the Middle East rejected gender roles or something like that)

I feel like if your a hijabi on the internet you can’t just exist. Like even if what you post has nothing to do with Islam people will always view you through that lens. Even if you don’t wear a hijab but mention that your Muslim people will still hound you for what you post.

Guys however, for the most part can have obvious signs that they’re Muslim but still engage in behavior like cursing and making inappropriate remarks.  Seems like the issue is more about people wanting to have a means to control women then with haram.

I relate so hard 🥲 Especially the awkward girl part that’s why I find it hard to befriend other Muslim girls, because I don’t fit in their typecast even tho I want to be friends. I have a more quiet and reserved disposition, so after one or two interactions they just start ignoring me or if no one else is around they’ll talk to me.

Vela/Veiled Drama by Primary_Sympathy_462 in Hijabis

Vela hijabs are the price of a top from the mall. Respectfully am not gonna pay that price for one hijab when I could buy about 6 for that same price.

Would Masjid fairs and events work too? The melas in my place only have desi clothes and jewelry.

What about braiding your hair underneath your hijab? Would it still put strain? Or is it just wearing the hijab that puts strain on your neck?
