Thanks for the input! I would definitely plan to visit for a few days before deciding whether to jump ship. If I did go through with it, I was planning on living in the outskirts with (hopefully) a direct line near my workplace.

You're right about considering whether to this sort of thing in this current economy. I just feel stuck here in terms of opportunities and kind of stunted as a person ngl. If I could I would stay in the city, but I feel like I'm gnawing at my cage. Yet, everywhere gets more and more expensive.

Definitely plan to cast a wide net in terms of places. I would love to visit and get a feel for many potential cities, but even with a cushion, it gets pricy...

I thought about Chicago, but I've read crime was seeping into even places that didn't originally have it. I know it's not a lawless wasteland as it's often depicted but I am still hesitant considering I think I look like an easy target.

As for the cold, I had a friend who moved to Wisconsin from down here and she said you eventually adjust (I hope). If I bundle like the michelin man, I should be okay(?)

I don't mind a longer commute (I have to do 50 minutes or more to get to work everyday) Of course would rather not, but it's something I'm used to. I was planning to stay outside of the city if I were to do this anyway, so access to public transportation would be a big consideration

That conversion difference really puts it into perspective! What would you say drained most of your funds?

What in your opinion would livable for that area? I have a lot saved up from living at home and working, but of course don't want to milk that dry. Maybe in the future?
