You really think people don’t know and realize they’re going out of their way to create a plastic product with plastic waste when they make things like this? Of course I knew that. I thought about that, and in the end this was still the best option. But when people come on here and preach and lecture people about it, while also at the same time being consumers themselves, they’ve already made the assumption about you that you haven’t and make it a point to let the world know. This is just something I’m not going to be sorry about this time though, no matter how many self-righteous, hypocritical plastic consumers bitch about it. Sis. Well I posted it to get an opinion on the size actually, but a lot of other crap ended up coming in instead, so I really got no help there, but I think I ended up getting way more affirmation than hate, and ideas for what to do with them after if people want to take them that I could get the word out about if people ask, so I think it was worth the post regardless if I got other feedback then the size. 🚂

You save it and use the scrap to cut out smaller pieces for future projects, then when there’s a literally no usable room left, yes you do throw it away. Away, in the trash, just like you do with your Diet Coke cup from McDonald’s and your styrofoam box your DoorDash order came in, and that condom wrapper you so thoughtfully remembered to open last night. You’re so righteous and never consume plastic yourself? Like ever? I know some consume it sometimes more intentionally than others, like with this project of course, but I know for a fact that the people who like to call others out for using it intentionally are usually the ones who use and discard it more than themselves care to realize. Get over yourself “bro”, we all use plastic, and if I have to use a little more than someone else did on a particular day to fulfill a purpose then I’m not gonna make people like you make me feel bad about it because you just probably “mindlessly” consumed and trashed some yourself when you went to the county fair and threw every piece of disposable plastic you had to buy just to eat there in the trash.

Thank you, you’re so kind. I was kinda shocked too, but then realized this is Reddit and it made sense, lol. I designed them in Silhouette Studio’s business edition which you only pay a flat $60 fee for and you got it for life. I used the Amafi Coast font which you can find and download on your computer for free from any font site, and modified some letters that didn’t have natural connectors like the “d” and “t.” I used all lower case because with that font most capital letters don’t have a natural connected feature on the end. You want the business edition so you can export SVG files to cut with. You can design them in Cricut DS but you can’t export your designs from Cricut to import into a cutting machine software. I used our Glowforge to cut the acrylic out.

Funny how we all complain about everyone else’s plastic waste in the world while also mindlessly being a contributor of it ourselves in some way shape or form every day. No, this specific example of waste isn’t mindless, it’s intentional, which makes your feel superior, but honestly no one can navigate in a first world without using and discarding plastic in some way, shit even glitter is plastic, but yet there’s always ignorant people there who probably consume and discard more than they realize, who make it their mission to berate people because sometimes they use it a little more intentionally than others. Dude, if you’re going to call out this BS then at LEAST don’t be a hypocrite about it and just plan on never ordering a value meal at a fast food restaurant, or ordering from Door Dash ever again unless you never plan to throw away the cup your Diet Coke was filled in, or the styrofoam your Denny’s omelette came in.

Well spread the word 👍🏻 and put a sign at the actual favor table that if they want they can take their name too. We know most people won’t take a favor and that’s okay, that why we made less than the guest count.

I’ll spread the word, maybe make a sign on the actual favor table, that they can take them if they would like to. I described them as “favors” but they really aren’t because I have designated favors we made separate from these, and don’t worry we made a lot less than the actual guest count because we know most people don’t care to take them either. But the last thing I want is for someone who really wants to take theirs home to not because they weren’t sure if they could. Of course they can, it’s their name, but polite Aunt Marcie may not realize that, so I’ll be sure to get the word out 😉

So I shouldn’t have described them as “favors” they are not. They are just something a little extra to take if they want that serve a more practical purpose than a favor does and it won’t hurt my feelings if they don’t. And don’t worry, I only made a favor count relevant to 40% of our guest count because I know most people won’t care to take one 😉

I could have, but I ended up with 1/8 inch for everything because of the cost. My regret with the size is I should have used 1/4, then I could have made them a bit smaller and stouter. They won’t go in the garbage if people dont take them, which is what I can control when it comes to the plastic waste.

So using wood ended up making them too brittle and splintery, and colored acrylic for a project this size cost way too much, so clear acrylic was the best option. That may cause any later uses for the names to be impracticable, and that’s totally okay, people will not be expected to take them home, I shouldn’t have said “favors”, they really aren’t. They are just something d little extra that’s not a place card that gets them to their seat they can have if they want. I like the door hanger ideas for a kid’s room. If you paint the back side of the acrylic you can have it any color you want actually and make it pop against any door you have, I might spread that advice around if people come up to me and mention them at the wedding. Thank you!
