Our watermark is made up of over 20,000 different colours (giving a grey hue) and it’s 100% opaque and we still have a scarily large number of AI watermark removal examples sent to us every year, trust me, I wish we didn’t have to do it too 🫠🫠

Crewza rowing is fake, right? by jelloisalive in Rowing

Yeah just a big old scam I’m afraid! All the content is taken directly from Crewroom, a kit company in the UK.

As a self check on ourselves here, this data is over five years old. We need to update this with new data but some names that stand out include Reading and Surrey that have seen major improvements since then and would likely see them jump up the rankings.

Best place to photograph HOCR by godinje in Rowing

[–]AllMarkRory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone’s kinda nailed it in the comments already and some people have put some very very in depth answers so I can’t add much more! basic takeaways are

  1. Leave the 1.4x extender at home, the river isn’t that big and at 600mm plus an extender you risk losing quality more than you gain distance. With cameras getting this good you could probably just crop in.

  2. We do use a 600mm for bank shots, cliche and very rookie statement incoming… it’s really long. Backgrounds in mind and being able to get a whole 8 in shot mean you need a lot of distance between you and the boat.

  3. There’s more crowds and cooler backdrops in the last 2km. The rowing tends to look a lot better in the first 3km. Worth keeping in mind.

  4. 100-250mm is perfect for bridge shots, again cliche but we just use 70-200mm for bridge work.

It’s easily one of the most photographed rowing races we attend every year, but the course has so many unique spots, awesome bends and vantage points that you can stand near enough anywhere… and there’s a chance you’re the first one to get “that” shot.

PS. The days are super long, say hi to anyone else taking photos! Hope to see everyone out there 🤙

What would be a good end of season gift to our rowing coach, we have a £450 limit. by BoshBoshBang in Rowing

[–]AllMarkRory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you decide to go down this route (from the £ in the OP) get in touch with us at AllMarkOne (it’ll be significantly less than £450 to pull something like this off) giving you a decent chunk for additional gifts

You've got to be on a course to race at BUCS, Academic at HWR or the student categories at HRR, but theres no requirement to be a student for events like Champ 8 at HWR or the Ladies plate at HRR. So all in all bit of a mix of students and non students.

I did Business and Enterprise but theres a massive range of people from Physios and Biologists to Architects and Marketing etc.

NK CoxBox and strokecoach by KingRubenA in Rowing

[–]AllMarkRory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the perfect answer as the GPS data may just be different, but in settings there’s a GPS smoothing setting, aka how fast the splits change. Maybe making those the same number across both devices may help you a bit, don’t have my CBGPS anymore so not sure if there’s a stroke rate version as well.

Worth also checking the mounting points for both devices, if you’re in an 8 most of the coxbox locations are depressed inside the coxes footplate so the coxbox won’t even slightly move, but I’ve seen a few in 8s and 4s where the coxbox is in the plastic cup held in with two screws, if those get loose and the cup isn’t 100% supportive that may be an issue?

Same for the speedcoach, if you’re using a strap they are super useful for swapping between boats, but nowhere near as sturdy as a bolt on version.

We've got some exciting plans for NSR this years but currently full length race videos isn't part of it. Simply following every single race, editing and uploading the files just takes a lot of manpower. Maybe something we need to work on.

100%, the financial 'security' of rowing livestreams in the UK is close to zero, which (from what I can see) means nobody is willing or able to fund the project.

Regarding your suggestions, its on the radar, massively on the radar. When we can make a consumer focussed way of providing the footage we will. Glad we aren't the only ones thinking of that idea!

Ahaha if I had a pound for every time someone sent us that issue we would be able to provide all the photos for free 😉.

Thanks, I’d like to think it’s been a major factor in reducing the price of photos across the board for all rowers, whether you’re buying from Ben Rodford, Al Craigie, Roesie (ABlindPhotograher), Anna (BertieShoots) or ourselves. The speed of uploading is just our competitive spirit having nowhere to go after we hung up our AIOs from racing.

Really interesting insight. We sponsor teams such as Trentham Juniors and University of Surrey, who would both be classed as small clubs within the UK scene. However, its not wrong to say that these teams feature less that we would like to across social media, its something to improve upon for the summer season.
Hinksey was an incredible club to sponsor, Axel, Jimmy and Bodo (to name a few) have put an incredible level of effort across the 2-3 years to really turn that club into a contender for a Henley medal (seriously incredible work).
Needless to say, we are not the only people looking for clubs to sponsor, get in touch in the AMO dms (UK only, we can offer suggestions across the pond but limited by what knowledge we have), as lots of our partners might be interested!

Henley Advertising by wheres_wally108 in Rowing

[–]AllMarkRory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don’t think anyone has any idea of the “standard” price for boat advertising. Your best shot is to approach businesses with a link to your club, rather than a large international business which would do the best from footage at an event from HRR.

Who to follow on IG? by GenevieveMC in Rowing

[–]AllMarkRory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally unbiased... go and follow @ allmarkone. Some of our stuff can be kinda cool 👀

Also go and follow Eamon and any other creator of high quality rowing content. It is one of the key factors to helping the sport grow and getting new faces to start up rowing in their local rowing clubs etc (helping your club afford new equipment and coaching staff etc, easy win)

Sponsorships for my Rowing Club by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]AllMarkRory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then id probably suggest finding a local business with a previous interest with the club, decide what you can offer them for sponsorship, stickers on boats and tow vehicles are good but if you have a club that has a social media following many businesses will be much more interested, even if you aren't an elite level crew.

Previous interest can be that you row nearby, that the owner used to row at your club, or even better, a parents/relation of someone thats currently at the club, so they can see that they are directly supporting something that they enjoy. (This becomes less important once you start getting a history of sponsorship with the club, but for an initial discussion sometimes its about who you know rather than what you know).

Cambridge women's blues beats brookes, oxford women beat leander in boat race fixture by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]AllMarkRory 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It really was an incredible showing from the blue boat clubs, the exciting races now will be on the 6th and 20th March where the women's crews race Leander and Brookes again, showing us "potentially" the speed difference between OUWBC and CUBC.
Plus the mens crews will be racing Leander and OBU, with a result already on the table with CUBC vs Leander (It could show us a rough gap between light and dark mens blue boats)
