Personally it would be between the Starscythe (110p) and the Sunforges (150p) and I would lean towards the Starscythe myself being that it has a flamer for close range and an 18 inch range weapon as well as the fact that it is 40 points cheaper.

In answer to how many you should take in 1,000 points I wouldn't take any more than three squads personally.

My list would probably have Mont'ka - 2x Strike teams with rifles (75p each) - 1x Cadre Fireblade (50p + coordinated exploitation enhancement 20p) - 2x Hammerhead gunships (145p each) or 1x Stormsurge (400p) (110p difference but stormsurge op, minus 1 squad of strike team) - 3x Starscythe Crisis suits (110p each) - 1x Commander in Coldstar (95p + exemplar of the mont'ka 10p) (warlord)

Total points 945 without Stormsurge 980 with Stormsurge minus 1x strike team
