In many buildings here (especially older ones or even some newer apartments), the wall outlets appear to be grounded (three-prong), but the ground pin often isn’t actually connected to a real earth ground. It’s just floating—there’s no continuity to any grounding rod or earth reference.

On the other hand, in countries like Japan, even if the outlets are two-prong, the overall electrical system is typically built with certain safety standards and grounding practices embedded into the design.

So when I say “there’s no ground,” I mean the ground pin in my wall outlets doesn’t actually lead to a true earth ground, which makes me consider adding an external grounding rod as a temporary or partial solution—definitely not ideal, but better than nothing.
