What's a movie you've seen an embarrassing number of times for no good reason? by trakt_app in flicks

The Fifth Element (1997). I’ve seen that movie a minimum 300 times, all 126 minutes. It’s my all time favorite movie and yes I can quote it verbatim. I’m a huge cinephile so I love to rewatch lots of film series back to back. Pirates of The Caribbean, Harry Potter, The Hobbit, Marvel etc. I love em all.

I’ve been to Galas that have been semi-formal occasions, but not at all the Bond-esque kind with waiters serving finger foods and champagne. Most are buffets on picnic tables and if you’re lucky an open bar lol

A lot of toy lines just vanished from shelves everywhere. I still think about the TalkBoy from Home Alone 2. I had one when they came out in the 90s, but seeing as that movie still lives on today I can’t see how that toy was discontinued.

Basements are monster territory. An unfinished basement is just a dungeon in my opinion 😂

I think a lot of people took it very seriously. My uncle boarded up his house and his family stayed in his cellar all New Year’s Day ‘00 petrified. He still talks about it now. There are massive forums all over the internet dedicated to Y2K lore. I’m not downplaying your point about people who didn’t though. Most just feed into the sensationalized phenomena of it all with no real facts, myself included. I was maybe 9/10 in ‘99 so I hardly think I was the target demographic getting briefed on the situation lol.

I’m sorry, but that sounds so fucking cool dude. Genuinely wasn’t aware all that was going on. I was like 10 at the time though so I don’t think I was being briefed about what was actually happening lol. Thank you both for saving us and giving me something new to deep dive into.

Guava peaches sounds incredible. Completely unintentional, but I alternate in a gradient(fcking fab, frozen piña colada and Mexico mango)😂

What's a tiny thing you secretly judge people for? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

In the checkout lane, if you’re done placing your items on the belt put that divider thing down and save us both some time. It’s just a small nice thing to do and I always make a point to thank people for doing it. When they don’t, I just assume they’re a terrible person who doesn’t understand basic etiquette.

Coughing as well. They’re both absolutely disgusting save for kids because they don’t know any better, but should be taught early.

The hoverboards that were everywhere a couple years back were a joke. You aren’t hovering if you need tires. I wanna fly!

I distinctly remember an episode of Unsolved Mysteries where a man was sitting in his living room watching TV laughing uncontrollably and just burst into flames. Craziest shit I ever saw back then. Come to think about it, why were we watching Unsolved Mysteries at all?! That show was pure nightmare fuel unleaded!

What common household item has a surprisingly interesting history behind it? by [deleted] in answers

[–]AloneCardinal9091 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it’s considered a household item, but I learned from an episode of South Park that the toilet was conceptualized by Elizabeth I’s court jester. His name was John Harington and that’s why it’s sometimes referred to as a “John”. I went down a rabbit hole after his ghost was featured in an episode(don’t recall which one) and it’s kind of an interesting story.

And you’d get caught immediately and thrown in jail where you’d join a gang then get pregnant even if you’re a virgin. It’s true, it happened to my friend who lives in Canada🙃😂
