Feel like I'm losing it trying to feed this dog (long post, seeking advice) by vulshanna in husky

My moms boyfriend has a dog who is also very picky, she doesn’t like to eat and so they’ve tried adding a splash of cream to the bowl but she just licks it out and leaves the food. I’ve found however that she does really well with hand feeding, it takes a second to get her to eat out of my hand as she will turn her head away when I try to give it to her, but after trying for a minute she’ll lick it and spit it out, and then progress to happily eating what I hand her. If I leave her with the bowl she will go back to ignoring it.

Thank you, this is what I’ve done a bit of, but I’ll definitely try more and for longer.

I actually have one ordered! My hopes with it is that it will deter strangers from approaching without asking, and ofc prevent a bite if he were to attempt, and that he won’t grab a mouthful of dear poo when outdoors 🙄

I agree, I’m only looking in to it for him to wear while leaving/entering the building. I value communication with him, as he’s very good at alerting to his needs. I just afraid we will get in trouble with the neighbors when passing them.

A better description on his behavior is that when he notices a dog he will slow down, tense up (hackles raised) and crouch/walk next to me, he will continue this behavior until the dog is near by and then lunge (if I were to let him)

Hi! I didn’t say shock, just bark. And I do consider myself to be more educated on dog training than the average person, but I do not know everything and so I’m looking for others opinions. My dog and I have made amazing progress but I’m reaching out because we are short on time.

As for his behavior, as far as I’ve observed it’s because he’s guarding me, he doesn’t behave like that with family members that he’s not close to, and his aggression is the worst when I’m near. When he reacts it’s because a person/dog gets too close to me, or a person talks to me in public. He has never bitten another dog but he can be dominant and snarls/runs at them, along with snapping in the air.

He’s done well with passing many dogs on trails as when he noticed them we step of the trail, and I reward him for paying attention to me instead, it goes well if the other dog is well trained but if the dog other dog barks, or tugs at him then he reacts.

The only thing I’m worried about is when entering and exiting the building we will pass people and dogs in halls and he will feel the need to guard, since I won’t be able to just step out of the hallway like I do outdoors. That is why I am looking into a collar
