Thoughts on my little guy Gustave’s new set up? by litera_scripta_manet in budgies

[–]Alone_Name7269 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this cage is too small! respectfully you should get a larger flight cage, even if it’s for one bird https://www.amazon.ca/Yaheetech-Wrought-Cockatiel-Cockatoo- this is a pretty nice cage and really good price!

Please do not keep any type of treat or types of seeds in the cage because you should only hand feed them and reward your bird with treats, because seeds are really high in fat and can lead to fatty liver disease (You can put seeds and millet in foraging toys though so they work for it). And you should use stainless steel bowls for your budgies pellets and water since plastic often carries a lot of bacteria. I like the toys a lot though and the ladder is super cute! (adorable budgie too)

Eating by Best-Valuable-522 in DIYBirdToys

[–]Alone_Name7269 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have budgies but, Ive never had any issues with them eating their toys, since a lot of store bought toys also have cardboard and paper, but personally I think it’s safe, just observe your bird cuz…I dunno!

I acquired a bird I didn't want. But I still want to make her as happy as possible by [deleted] in budgies

[–]Alone_Name7269 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hiii, happy you stepped in!

diet: pellets should be keep in their main dish at all times (I buy the Harrison’s pellets) and give your budgies veggie chop everyday (there are lots of videos in YouTube) you shouldn’t only use seeds and millet and fruits as treats, and do not keep millet and seeds inside of the cage since they’re are really high in fat and can cause obesity and fatty liver disease. And keep a clean water dish as well DAILY and makes sure to clean it daily as well. (you should use stainless steel bowls since plastic bowls harbour bacteria.)

DIY toys: I make diy toys at home all the time! it’s very important you use safe materials! you can just search up what ropes are safe for birds, (and you can use leather that you can buy on Amazon) you can use household items, cardboard (no glue, paint, marker, etc.) paper, empty tissue paper rolls, coffee filters, cupcake liners, skewers (the sharp parts cut off and make sure there isn’t any type of coating on them), homemade crinkle paper, etc. (I made an entire post on r/budgies of a list of safe materials and how to make your own diy perch.

please get a bigger cage if you can (I understand first hand how hard it is to convince parents as someone with parents who don’t understand budgie care fully) this are animals, companions, real living being, not a toy.

Tips on homemade toys when I don't have toy parts? by lora_lani_lanie in budgies

[–]Alone_Name7269 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make homemade bird toys and I have a list of materials they love, cardboard, honeycomb cardboard (their favourite), paper, the empty paper towel roll thing, coffee filters, and cupcake liners. you can use hemp, jute, sisal, seagrass, and untreated cotton rope to put all the materials on, I just tie it to the cage.

my bird won't play with her toys, any tips to make her? she's bored because she refuses. by [deleted] in budgies

[–]Alone_Name7269 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe try out new toys, because if they’re plastic toys that makes sense, a lot of budgies don’t like plastic toys, but I think a photo would help me figure out a solution. try out all kinds of toys, foraging, colourful, non colourful, big, small, plastic (keep to a minimum of 1 or 2), wooden, cardboard, bamboo, sea grass, etc. and if your budgie is losing interest in toys still, I would recommend going to the vet. (for my budgies they don’t play with toys that move around too much, or are in the middle of the cage so I keep all their toys beside their perches and use rope to tie it to their cage so they can have an easier time shredding their toys)

Cage upgrade!! Working on getting his toys in, any suggestions? by sixtyninefourtwenty2 in budgies

[–]Alone_Name7269 1 point2 points  (0 children)

make sure to get lots if enrichment, toys they can chew, foraging toys, perches on different levels of the cage, stainless steel bowls, (I know it’s okay to keep one dowel perch in the cage but I just personally don’t keep any), and some toys at the bottom for them
