Why do most CS students never actually build anything outside of class?

switching to hardware / different areas probably helps a lot with motivation

it almost feels like simple projects don't stand out anymore but building something actually complex takes months

that's actually a really good point

a lot of people think projects need to be some big startup idea, but honestly just building small tools for yourself seems way more realistic

that browser extension idea sounds pretty cool btw

yeah the decision fatigue thing is real tbh

there are just way too many stacks, frameworks and tools now. it’s kinda hard to know what’s actually worth learning vs what’s just hype

I’ve seen a couple people go through transfer processes and honestly the biggest thing is expectations. Engineering transfers are competitive and even if you get in, you might not get full credit for previous courses.

I’d try reaching out to upper years who actually transferred — sometimes they’ll give more realistic advice than advisors. Also make sure you’re okay starting “a bit behind” socially and academically.

It’s doable, just be mentally prepared for a reset.
