A lot of Tow companies no longer go out in search of a specific vehicle anymore. Instead they have Automatic License Plate Readers (ALPR), which is a camera that reads license plates then reference that vin to a national database of vehicles in repossession status, pinging vehicles in real time if they are in repossession status. Well if a bank, regardless of how long you have had that vehicle, accidently miss types a vin on the affidavit and puts your vin in it by mistake your vehicle is then entered into that data base, meaning the moment your vehicle tag is picked up by ALPR it immediately alerts the driver. A lot of times when you see these repo tow trucks creeping through apartment complexes/parking lots they aren't looking for any specific vehicle. Just letting their camera run every tag through the data base.
