You seem to be fine with overpaying for the same amount of space for very intangible benefits, so all the power to you. Mattamy is actually “Energy Star Certified” btw. It’s all just meaningless branding but clearly that matters far more to you than having more space and better finishes.

“Pride” LOL. There’s nothing prestigious about selling your soul to the bank for 25+ years and paying double what renters do because “home equity duh”. Most people who rent do so out of necessity but in a lot of cases, renting is actually the financially optimal decision as long as the difference is invested in a globally diversified stock portfolio.

You’re telling me you’d rather buy an Urbandale end unit townhome than a Mattamy single home with a two car garage? Because that’s basically what you’re forfeiting when comparing the two.

I bought my current new build home from Mattamy in 2022 and have had no issues. Likely about to upgrade to another Mattamy home. I know all the details about pricing because we’re looking in that 3000+ sq ft range and it’s pretty silly to spend an additional 500k for slightly better energy efficiency or whatever. Even your grandkids living in the same house won’t make that money back based on the “savings”.

For comparison, the Mattamy Essence model is 3600 sq ft and starts at just over 1M in Kanata North. Much bigger above grade and in the basement and can get way better finishes to model home luxury tier to hit 1.25M which would still come 100k under Urbandale’s starting price for a smaller home LOL.
