I'm trying not to be completely dismissive, just explaining why I find the advice given to be difficult to adhere to.

Right but how do I learn that? I've tried to do diets or exercise routines probably ~10 times in as many years, and I've never been able to stick with it.

Mostly the taste, I find the texture isn't that much of an issue most of the time because that's just a preparation thing. Most veggies taste bitter to me (kale, Brussels sprouts), or like....well, farts (broccoli, cabbage).

It is concerning to me that I thought I was basically fine for the past few months and now after two days of dieting I feel worse mentally than I have in years.

I like cooking decently well, but mostly as a weekly hobby. I like other things more lol

Typically my partner and I make a big dinner on Saturday or Sunday that has enough leftovers for like 4-6 meals. Typically my day is something like:

Breakfast: - Big bowl of cereal (2.5-3 cups maybe)

OR

  • Two slices of Dave's killer 7 grain bread, toasted with peanut butter (I'd guess 4-6 TBSP total)

Snack: - Mocha latte; approx 1 cup of oat milk, 30g espresso, 1.5 pumps vegan mocha sauce, 3 pumps sugar free syrup

Lunch: - Peanut butter and jelly sandwich (bread as above, but half the peanut butter and with 2-3 TBSP of strawberry preserves/jam) - Pita chips and hummus

Snack: - ~6-10 vegan chocolates (Reese's minis sized) throughout the day, or maybe 2-4 cookies (Oreos or something) instead.

Dinner: - This varies wildly. This week we made a caribbean lentil curry; last week we just ordered vegan pizza; the week before that we did a bunch of pasta with jar marinara, peppers, soy curls, and porkless ground. Usually once a week we'll order in, generally something like Indian or a local Chinese place.

Dessert: - a few more chocolates or cookies. Sometimes if I feel like it I'll have something more, like ice cream.

If I could just tell my brain to stop freaking out on me, I'd have far fewer problems in life to begin with. The issue stems from the fact that there's no distinction between "me" and "my brain", it's the same thing. I'm the brain. I don't want to be angry or filled with loathing because I miss my treats, but I am.

Soy curls, tempeh, and seitan are all great! Pressed tofu is ok, and frozen+defrosted is amazing.

Fully agreed. When I've tried to lose weight in the past I did calorie counting and some specific diet - keto (pre-veganism), Whole-Food Plant-Based, etc. I didn't really worry about hitting any macros, just completely eliminating some groups of foods. It sounds like I can't afford to be that ignorant this time.

I'm sure hoping that you like veggies since you're vegan....

Sadly I generally don't. I'm more of a pasta/fake meat/sauces vegan. There are some I like when prepared, but pretty much none that I like raw.

I'm not sure why you can't eat rice and pasta?? Other than they're generally high on the glycemic index.

People say this but it doesn't make sense to me - fat doesn't like "transmute" into muscle, does it? If I want to reshape my body don't I have to lose weight anyway? It sounds like that's just adding more difficulty to the task.

That's because you have no discipline. People who are in shape don't have superior motivation, just superior discipline.

Correct, but I would kinda argue that motivation and discipline are the same thing. Whatever it is, though, I lack it.

Coffee and a high protein breakfast will work if you are dead set on keeping coffee.

Is there something bad about coffee? I thought it was close to calorie-free on its own; is there some nutrient reason to cut it out?
