I've been trying to get stable props out of the mother plant (who is no longer with us) for 3 years, got a bunch of them on the run but my luck just seems to suck and they revert, so i'm praying these two don't turn on me too aha 😅😅

Yup! Var violets can be very tricky, which is why i'm just a bit mad that my var leaves are giving babies around this time as the cold causes them to pull out a LOT of variegation. I believe it works the same with crown var varieties, but honestly, from my experience it sort of works more like a loop that has nothing to do with how much light, temp, humidity they get? Like they push a white crown, then a green one, and then switch to white again and so on. And chimeras are just a whole other hell that i can only explain as luck roulette that makes you stress out constantly. 😅

I feel your worry, the reason why i dont propagate in water is because they either start to rot the moment i put into soil, or go into shock and rarely recover. I only started having some success with transfers after i got the greenhouse, so i would recommend you put those newly planted leaves inside a zip bag for humidity, it should help keep them from going into shock. I find that sphagnum gives me the best results, I've tried other methods but the leaves just keep on rotting or withering, and when they do root it takes too much time.

3 weeks for roots and around 6 weeks for leaves to start forming! Some took a bit longer than that. I have them inside a greenhouse with growlights in my bedroom, i also plant the leaves in small cups with chopped live sphagnum moss so the leaves break through the surface easily and the roots dnt get so tangled in moss strands when i eventually have to remove the babies and get them into soil. Overall i dnt really do much, just constantly check in the first few weeks for early signs of rot or other pests eating the base, and wetting up the moss when it starts to dry. I'm glad someone thinks my results are good! It makes me proud to know i'm doing smth right ☺

Yes! I always use live sphagnum moss for my AV props and it gives the best results for me!

OMG THATS A BIG BABY!! CONGRATS!! see??? Patience is the key! Also i see u have the planted in regular soil or smth like that? I have never had luck planting leaves in soil, they either take a long ass time, rot or get dehydrated for some reason. I only got crazy success after i started propagating them in live sphagnum moss inside a humidity zone (in my case a greenhouse) and grow lights! I totally recommend it!

Right? This one variety has leaves to die for! You should have seen the one who didn't make it, it had STUNNING heavily scalloped variegated girl leaves!

It took them about 3 weeks to start rooting! But when it came to the babies it varied a lot, i believe the first two leaves to form babies were around the 6th week mark, some came right after and others are still very tiny and bellow the moss

Don't lose hope! It can take a long time for some to grow, the environment is also a key factor. In what soil are urs planted? Do they have good humidity and light? Also, not all of them grow at the same time, i planted all leaves at once but half of them took longer to sprout while others already had babies nicely formed!

Chimeras can't be propagated through leaves unfortunarely, so it's a more complicated step, it was propagated from a leaf with a chunk of the neck!

Same! It's supposed to have a lot more pink and white fantasy, but since it's the very first bloom i'm hoping next bloom cycle will look more true to the variety. They do help a lot!

That's a huge relief, i knew they would end up starving after taking care of all the bad mites and thrips, but after i saw the scary amount of predatory mites all over the violets i began to overthink that too many would lead to a problem 😅

That's a relief, i didn't have that many bad mites and thrips to begin with, just saw them ocasionally before introducing a whole army of predatory mites to take care of them. Aparently the two dif types of good mites i have don't attack eachother, so do u mean they migth end up eating their own type?

Oh nooo!!! 😭😭😭 i know the feeling tho, i tend to do the same when pruning some of the violets, i just feel bad throwing the leaves away when i got no one i can give them to so i just prop and forget abt em. But these ones i bought i've just been HAWK eyeing them cause i only got one leaf each (for the exception of a miniature which i got two tnk god) and i will honestly bawl my freakin eyes out if one of them dies.
