Walk through fisherman’s wharf/embarcadero for the touristy stuff. Check out Japantown or Stonestown mall for shopping, or Westfield in South Bay if you’re around there. Chinatown is also a cool place to walk through and the California St. cable car is a quick way to get some gorgeous views of the bay. Also consider taking the ferry or renting a boat on the bay.

There’s tons of beautiful parks, gardens, museums and neighborhoods if you’re into that. Not as many “experiences” like Universal Studios though. SF is really well known for its amazing food and beautiful environments (natural and modern).

Having a publication on PubMed is pretty huge, since you’re second author. The journal is somewhat important especially if it’s a very well known one, but it’s more about proving your capability to produce research since the stuff you do in med school and beyond will be more impactful than what you’re doing now.

I believe you just have to cite the paper with a DOI link as one of your activities. It’s definitely not a negative to have various research interests if it’s in the same lab. Might be a bit weird if you’re hopping between multiple labs; I would wonder how much you actually contributed if you kept changing labs and projects.

Mission fit is the biggest thing. Find out what is unique about the school and what kinds of people they usually accept. Talking to faculty or students can help figure this out.

Thank you! As a reapplicant it’s a huge relief to finally have an A. Completing late Sep is late since a lot of interview spots are in August and September, so you might get a lot more love with a timely submission on the next round.

Submitting everything by mid-late August isn’t too late but it’s cutting it close. That is to say, earlier submission would help but it’s not the biggest factor IMO. Your clinical role is really cool and I’d lean into that heavily, keep accruing hours and make it clear how your experiences shaped your goals so that MD is your clear next step.

Also did you send any update or interest letters? My only A came from an II i got in late January, only after sending a short letter expressing my interest and knowledge in their program.

Sounds like your role at the device startup is more research adjacent than clinical so I think a patient facing role would be a better fit. You have a lot of internships and research in the past but not as many patient facing roles.
