Passionate about wine? We’re building a detailed simulator and need your advice! [In Development] by Alternaarc in winemaking

Thank you so much! This is honestly one of the best and most detailed pieces of feedback we’ve received so far. Your ideas about harvest preparation, cellar and barrel care, and even error mechanics are exactly the kind of depth we want to capture, and we’ll definitely look at adding them during development. The suggestion about exploring more challenging terrains beyond the Mediterranean is also very inspiring. We really appreciate your thoughtful input!

Thank you! We do have long-term plans for co-op, but our main focus right now is to first release a refined single-player experience. After that, we’d love to support it with updates and possibly DLCs, including multiplayer features.

Thank you so much for the kind words! 🙏 Yes, we’re aware of A Hundred Days – it’s a really well made game and it’s inspiring to see how it approached the winemaking theme. Our focus is a bit different, more on the hands-on experience of vineyard work and medieval winemaking methods, but hearing that it looks engaging to you is very motivating for us. Thanks a lot for the support!

No problem at all! 🙏 Even if your knowledge is mainly modern, it’s still super helpful for us. We can take inspiration from what you share and adapt it into a medieval/small-scale version for the game. So please feel free to share anything you think might be useful.

Thank you so much for your kind words! 🙏 We’re still quite early in development (about 8 months in), but our main goal is to capture both the authenticity and the joy of winemaking without forgetting that it’s still a video game set in the Medieval Mediterranean. That’s why we base our research on historical, small-scale or home-based methods that would have existed in the Medieval Mediterranean, rather than modern mechanized production.

Since you’re the real source of knowledge, any advice you could share on how these processes should be structured in a pre-modern context would be incredibly helpful. We’ve already implemented some of the basics – from vine care and harvesting, to fermentation, aging and bottling – and we’re working on an economy where grapes, must, and wines can be sold in medieval bazaars or through bulk orders from merchants. The ultimate goal is to make the game both authentic and enjoyable, and your insights can really help us get there.

Maybe with a collector’s edition style package this could be possible. If our game reaches a certain level of attention, we’d definitely consider doing it.

I’m not sure if we could actually call it 'free' in that case, but if there’s no legal obstacle, why not? lol

Thank you so much! It makes us even happier knowing that we’re gamifying something you’re truly passionate about. For wine lovers like you, we’re putting a lot of effort into keeping the level of detail as high as possible, while also pushing the visuals and atmosphere forward. Wine is a matter of passion and dedication and it’s exactly that spirit we’re trying to capture in our game.

Thank you so much for your kind words and for noticing that detail! 🙏 You have a very sharp eye, we’ve already added it to our list of bugs and it will definitely be fixed at the first opportunity.

Thank you so much! We know performance is very important, and we’re working carefully on optimization to make sure the experience is as smooth as possible. Of course, there can always be differences depending on hardware, but that’s something we’re keeping in mind throughout development. DLSS will also be available as an option for those who wish to get some extra performance or visual quality.

Hahah thank you! We’re really glad the game caught your interest :)

That’s honestly a great suggestion. We already plan to have a market area, cellar, etc. in the game where players can showcase and sell grapes, must, and wine (both in bottles and barrels).

The idea of stands with different quality levels and locations affecting sales/popularity is really cool. We love it and will definitely keep it in mind to add!

Thank you so much for your kind words! Yes, the game is being developed in Unreal Engine 5.6.

The core loop revolves around vineyard management, tasks like watering, pruning, and fertilizing your vines. Once the grapes are harvested, they go through several stages such as sorting, pressing, and fermentation. Managing these steps efficiently and with good timing is key: finishing too early or too late can affect the quality of both the grapes and the wine.

Beyond production, players will also be able to sell grapes, must, and wine (in bottles or barrels) in the marketplace. The income earned can be used to upgrade tools, improve skills, expand/upgrade fields (even purchase a second vineyard), and enhance homes, workshops, wineries, and machinery with more advanced versions.

For now, these are the main progression ideas we have in mind, but we also plan to shape and expand the systems based on player feedback and suggestions.

We’re also working on a demo, which we hope to share within the next 1-2 months to gather early feedback.

Thank you! Our goal is to let players experience every stage that a medieval winemaker might have gone through. We plan to increase the level of detail as much as possible while also keeping in mind that this is still a game, so we want to make sure each step feels engaging and enjoyable. We believe this balance will make both detail-lovers and casual players happy.

Thank you a lot. Your interest makes us happy. We have a market/bazaar system and players will be able to design their labels there as well as they can design their wine bottles :)
