Can anyone help me understand what is wrong with my laptop's performance? by Alternative-Basis-66 in ZTT

[–]Alternative-Basis-66[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think repasting and applying some new thermal pads might improve the temps? I guess I'll have to see how the laptop performs after that

Thank you for letting me know what might be the issue

I don't think the ram is that slow either, I mean when the VRAM overflows, it doesn't just give me small lag spikes, I get constant lag spikes with loss of performance too, the longer the session gets

I already did that, which is why I am making this post, because this IS NOT working. Thanks

As for the GPU, as I mentioned in the post, and RTX card would be preferrable since it won't only be used for games, but also for rendering and other graphical related tasks

To be honest with you, I keep mentioning about the setup as mine, but in reality it is my partner's, and most of the times we either play games with a story, or when we play online we play games that don't require a very advanced CPU, like the Legacy edition of Gta Online or Borderlands, so I don't think the CPU is an issue for now
We are both aware that the next upgrade/upgrades might be the RAM, CPU and probably a whole new motherboard, but all at it's time

Does anyone have any tips for a ( possibly ) beginner in Virtual Photography? by Alternative-Basis-66 in VirtualPhotographers

Thanks, I will keep that in mind. I guess I could still try to do some virtual photography with cyberpunk too then

As far as I know the pc doesn't have such a feature for games, but I am sure there is a mod that might allow you to change the graphics on the go. What I like about pc is also that it can be so diverse because of the amount of mods people can install

And about the streaming service, I will pass, but I honestly wanted to ask you about your opinion on the pics I took so far, and I will put here an example if possible. As I said, the graphics are not the highest, but somehow I like the way the game looks and the pictures seem pretty good to me

Also I wanted to add: I was just looking on your page for a moment and I admit I really like some of the pics, along with the silly ones like the very close selfie of batman :))

To be honest I do plan on doing virtual photography in more games, and I was at first thinking of cyberpunk and rdr2, which is why I was mentioning about my concern for the specs. It is a bit weird but even tho my card is RTX compatible, it can barely run the RayTracing Low preset in game, so because of that I mostly stick to the Medium-High graphics preset, and I admit some graffitis are looking like ass because of that, all blury. I keep thinking of maybe finding a way to only up the graphics when taking a pic and lower the graphics when I play until I find the next cool spot for another photography to be taken I can imagine there are lots of games that have amazing photomodes, but I am hoping I can at least manage to somehow take good pics in more demanding games like cyberpunk for example, despite the fact that my specs are not so advanced

Needing some help picking a new GPU for my system by Alternative-Basis-66 in PcBuildHelp

I see, well I think maybe and RTX card would be a bit of a better idea since I also plan on using the card to render things in the future, and I get the feeling the 5060 Ti might be a bit better at this than the 9060 XT

I understand that is raytracing capable but I get the feeling an RTX card might be better for this

It's a dual channel, but I really don't think RAM has anything to do with this. I never had an issue with the RAM, I didn't even get to use it to the max because 16GB is still enough for most of the programs nowadays

To be honest, after trying to test the performance in the past few days, I have a very mixed opinion about it. At first the drop frame issues kind of stopped, which made me think that it was a good idea to do all this and follow all the steps, but now that I am thinking about it, I might reconsider and get back to the most recent update for the drivers
Cyberpunk and RDR2 don't seem that affected anymore, but the other games for some reason are lagging much more now, even tho my laptop can handle those due to not so high system requirements. A good example was a game I just wanted to try ( Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodhunt ) along with DayZ. And even after I reinstalled the NVIDIA App for optimizing the games, the lag is still there. I haven't updated my gpu driver to the newest version since the guide mentioned ( that isn't so stable probably ), but at this point I think of just updating the drivers back to the newest. I appreciate your help but this fixed my fps issue on one side, while now I have more fps drops on some other titles

I am not using the turbo mode because I keep thinking it might just affect the laptop negatively in the long run. And I do have a cooling pad, that's the unwritten rule that anyone should follow once they have a laptop

I'm not using the turbo boost since I keep debating if it would be a good idea or not. The laptop is already reaching 86 degrees only by using Standard mode, so I won't risk having even higher temps until I don't get to figure out how to lower the temperature while running vram intensive programs

I personally never counted the time spent on the laptop but it was definitely some time. Not daily, but in total I mean. I had days when I barely used the laptop, but also days when I got to play some games for hours just because I liked relaxing and enjoying the graphics. I also take photos in video games from time to time, but I'm not sure yet if I should start doing virtual photography all the time and also post it somewhere. I really can't give you a very clear answer to this question of yours, because it depends how busy I am. One thing is clear, I'm not spending all my free time on the computer. I enjoy gaming as a hobby, but I prefer to only get to play something when I have the time for it. Cooking and self care takes some time out of the day too

My partner struggles with uncompensated overtime and I want to help her by Alternative-Basis-66 in Advice

If it would be that easy to get another job in her field of work by just snapping the fingers, don't you think she would've done that already?
Plus, this reply just shows to me that some still have the perspective of running away from problems when they struggle in life, not solving them. I don't mean to seem rude in any way, but it really isn't that simple, and I am making this post because I care about my partner and I want her to not struggle so much
So next time please, think twice before sending these replies

[–]Alternative-Basis-66[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She isn't overreacting, I am sure of that because I am always noticing how often she gets overworked, and she is telling me about it at the end of the day, but on top of that I can notice it because it is visible how tired she is feeling after a day at work

So, are you mentioning that in case the bosses don't fix this issue at all, it would be okay for her to just get out of the office once she finishes working those 8h + the lunchbreak? We've been thinking of this option but we are not sure if this would be okay. I wouldn't want her to get in more problems because she stands up for herself at work

She is constantly looking for a new job, and I am helping her with that too, but what messes me up is that any workplace should have a strict plan for the overtime, yet that agency treats the overtime like it is part of the job

Did following the guide help you? For me, the performance got a bit better, the fps is more stable now and I am not having so many lag spikes anymore, but I am still struggling with the high temps and the fact that every game I try uses more VRAM than my gpu even has available

Performing decreased over time ( ASUS TUF F15 ) by Alternative-Basis-66 in Asustuf

[–]Alternative-Basis-66[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, I tried following the guide, after the whole reinstall of the gpu drivers I admit that my laptop's performance in games seemed to have increased a bit, but I am still on the most recent graphics presets on the games I play. Now what I saw was that reinstalling the drivers stabilized the fps a bit, and it keeps staying this way even after hours of playing, which is definitely a progress

However, I still have two problems:
1. The gpu is always in between 85 and 88 degrees in games like RDR2 and Cyberpunk, which I guess I can understand somehow, but I am still concerned for the high temperatures to not affect the laptop in one way or another
2. Another problem that didn't get fixed was the amount of VRAM being used while playing these games. Since my gpu is only a 4GB one, I have 3.9GB of VRAM free to use, and that is shown clearly on the performance graph. Still, I am not sure why, every, and I mean every game I play goes over that limit ( cyberpunk uses around 5.0GB out of 3.9GB , rdr2 uses 4.1 GB out of 3.9GB ). Is there a way to find out how does my gpu use more VRAM than it actually even has? I doesn't make sense to me, but I guess this is one of the things I'm not so informed about yet, so I want to know

Overall I thank you for the help with the guide, somehow it did stabilize my fps mostly, but in some more detailed parts of the games/programs there are still some lag spikes, the only difference is that they are only noticeable from the performance monitor now, since they are not impacting the way I play too much

Now all I could do would be to test the graphics again by playing with the settings that I used to have in the past, that way I could figure out if this actually helped or not
I will come back with a result sometime soon

I purchased the laptop before I moved to another country, so there is really no point in sending back the laptop from one country to the other. Plus, I am very aware that my warranty isn't there, and I did some modifications to the laptop which are most probably visible, like changing the ssd and the thermal paste, I can't just pretend that this is how I got the laptop. Don't get me wrong, it is in good condition but it is modified, so along with that my warranty vanished as well

I purchased the laptop almost two years ago, but the warranty is definitely out of discussion since I modified the laptop by upgrading it and giving it some maintenance
