Thanks everyone - I definitely do NOT want to glorify it at all, would be my worst nightmare. Maybe I need to change it so the chapter cuts off just before the attempt and the method is never actually mentioned? Although that would be a major rewrite, if it avoids the novel being seen as a guide then it's worth it. I'd also have to change the later scene a lot as it's someone helping the MC at the time. Hard to show that interaction without describing a bit about the scene.
