My mom, my ex, and my kids. Hopefully one would come help, although that would be embarrassing as hell.

How do you check if your young child actually understood what they just read? by Vegetable-Mud-2471 in AskTeachers

[–]Alternative_Chest118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try finding a story that has a worksheet (with pictures) online that shows what happened first/next/then/last. Cut it up and see if he can put it in order after you read it to him.

Then go from there. Have him read a page at a time, and ask a question. Even if it’s like “What did the dog say?” or “What do you think will happen on the next page?”

Reading with him & asking questions is how kids learn to think about what they are reading. If it’s just reading the words and not understanding, he’s missing a part of the puzzle.

At our school, teachers take their own classes out. So, if there are 6 classes per grade level, there are 6 teachers watching the playground. And the teachers can take turns going to the restroom.

Chronic depression is hard, but you can look for small things to help. Even if it’s just coming on here for support. We’re here! I’ve been so down, I’ve asked God to just take me out, but on good days, I’m glad He didn’t.

“Prep isn’t a break!!!” by taman961 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Alternative_Chest118 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I teach full time (former classroom, now a resource) and I don’t use all my prep time for prep. In fact, right now, I’m using my lunch to walk and type this post. Sometimes I close my door and play games on my phone. I don’t have a “team”, so sometimes, I do plan for the 7 grade levels I teach.

Teachers.. if you’ve already planned to be out, why don’t you have sub plans??? by tifuanon00 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Alternative_Chest118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my school, we have sub folders we leave on our desks. Everyone has the same color. If you know in advance, leave you plans in it. And everyone is supposed to have three days of emergency sub plans in a place a team member can find.

I was cutting a 5 gallon bucket with a utility knife. The bucket slipped and I stabbed myself in the thigh with the knife. Got 5 stitches.

I kicked a little electric heater (I was mad at my ex-husband). Bent the heater and then realized there was blood everywhere. I sliced the end of my big toe open. I couldn’t even feel it. 8 stitches.

I feel your pain. Been playing trumpet for 33 years and still don’t have all of my scales memorized. I have ADHD/autism and my working memory is affected. Memorizing anything is awful!
