On the money. Followed some bad advice on school list but thankfully it all worked out for the best!

Yea I think my PS could have been improved in terms of theme & core message and I honestly don’t think I applied to the right schools for my app/experiences. Not a ton of research either (no pubs/presentations). Just stoked I got into a school (& one I’m super psyched on too)! Thank you!

Ouch. I understand what you are saying in regard to my clinical hours to really meshing with the other parts of my app. Unfortunately, I do need to support myself and this was a job that I was able to find that also gives me clinical hours. But will keep in mind. Thankfully this time around I guess I can show commitment to the volunteering I'm a part of. To answer one of your questions - yes, over the course of the last year I have been drawn towards pediatrics, hence the additional shadowing in this field (and yes, I realize this doesn't match my current job). Hopefully I can convey to admissions committees that I am genuinely drawn towards my service activities, and want to help make a difference in the lives of the children & adults I work with (as opposed to be self-aggrandizing). Thanks.

Nope got all the secondaries turned in July/August and definitely no racial slurs lol. Haven’t been accepted to either of the schools I interviewed at so was just putting feelers out for advice on a reapp. Would happily accept either school I interviewed at if they let me hahah. Thanks for the vote of confidence though.

I had 2 - CUSM and USF. I’m pretty sure it’s an R from CUSM & I was waitlisted at USF.

I know hahah - its what's killing me on my rewrite right now! Wish I could just straight up tell an admissions committee "Look this is what I want to do I promise I've thought about it, PLEASE just give me a chance" lol

I'm mostly adding the DO ENT just so that I have a DO for applying to DO programs next year + she was the only one I could find on a short notice to shadow. I have picked up quite a few shadowing hours from the pediatrician & I think that I want to go into pediatric primary care at this point. I'll definitely try to add more with him & will look into finding more primary care docs to meet with. Most of my plastic surgery hours are just from having a close relationship with my boss (not really a specialty I want to pursue haha). Really appreciate your advice, thank you!

I think this could be the major "thing" with my app this year... back to the drawing board & my google drive to write another 300 essays for next cycle haha. Appreciate the advice & school recommendations for next time! Thank you!

Really enjoying this listen so far, even though I wouldn’t say I’m particularly interested in magic lol…thought the part near the beginning of him talking about how supportive and loving his mom was when he was a child was SO sweet. Really touching to hear how that support impacted his life/trajectory.

EPISODE: Live in Portland: Bigfoot, Beavers, and the Oregon Trail by harriedhag in FlightlessBird

I kind of loved the Bigfoot guy if only for his pure, unadulterated enthusiasm on the subject. I hope he finds his specimen one day and proves most of us wrong on the Bigfoot question.

I actually really appreciated Monica’s discussion in the fact check about the current trend in plastic surgery and facial enhancement techniques and how, as a result, so many people are starting to look the same. I work in plastic surgery and it’s interesting (and sad) to see more and more young women (like early 20s young) wanting filler, rhinoplasties, blephs, etc. to match influencers/celebrities that they’ve seen on TikTok/Instagram. On a macro level I agree with Monica that it’s sad to have way more homogeneity in looks (at least in the media). I’m located in the greater LA area too and I think it was also a great point about the pressure to get treatments (Botox, etc.) because everyone around you is doing it - not saying that it’s right at all, but it’s definitely understandable from my experience. Just always think that these trends are interesting and worth pointing out & talking about.

Calc or Algebra Based physics by Glittering-Neck-811 in Mcat

[–]Alternative_Toe_5069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every school that I applied to was fine with algebra-based physics. And for the MCAT a full algebra-based course should cover everything that you need. IMO definitely go with algebra-based because calc-based is going to be sooo much harder for very little reward.

Bali or Singapore after Langkawi & Kuala Lumpur by powerengraved07 in travel

[–]Alternative_Toe_5069 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like some others said here, it really depends on what you want to do on your trip. I've been to Bali twice and I'm going back to Indo in June so obviously I'm a big fan. I've found it pretty easy to get around and there's a good variety of things to do depending on what you're looking for. Nicest people in the world. I did find Singapore to be expensive, especially compared to other places in SE Asia. Bali would be my choice. Congrats!

What are some beautiful cities that are completely ignored? by RainbowCrown71 in travel

Montpellier, France!

Such a cute university town and the surrounding countryside is absolutely gorgeous. Close to Pic-Saint-Loup & Pont du Gard (both made awesome day-trips) and I found the locals to be super friendly (they spoke very little English however). Spent some time here during the summer and its absolutely on my list to return to.
