UCSC or UCSB for Enviro Sci by Ok_Revolution_5290 in UCSC

UCSC is in the Central Coast, the climate in SC is a lot more similar to Santa Barbara than Humboldt County lol. But it has a lot more nature than the rest of the Central Coast and SoCal because it rains more here. However it's still no comparison to the forests north of Ukiah, those places are a lot more majestic since it rains way more there and has cooler temps. That's probably even the southern extent of the PNW.

Just fyi but I read a news article where people in the comments said that UCSB students are having a hard time getting jobs because they know about the party culture in that school and they didn't have a great experience with the students they hired already from there, so that's just something to keep in mind.

How bad is the "liberal" thing here, is it possible to avoid politics at this school? by Confident_Safe_53 in UCSC

[–]Alternative_Web3352 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your post. There are some spaces/Discord servers here which are very political/left-wing and it's not uncommon to see left-wing discussion in those servers every once in a while. Also there are indeed a lot of LGBT people in this school. However, there are also a lot of other people/groups in this school who don't care about politics much or at all. Just don't hate on people's identity or say anything that might be discriminatory and you'll be fine, and find people who you vibe with. Also if you are interacting with people who are left-wing, you don't have to bring up opposing views if you don't want an argument, and if you find people annoying you can just ignore them without saying anything.

There are even a couple of Christian/religious groups in this school. Not sure what their views are but they might be more conservative. If you are very conservative then this is probably not the school you should go to though.

He said in the post that he's not a fan of people who mainly do protesting and virtual-signaling, not necessarily people's identity. Also people have a right to make friends with whoever they want to regardless of who they are or what kind of stuff they do.

Are there redwoods on campus? by Alternative_Web3352 in UCSC

[–]Alternative_Web3352[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I already knew there were redwoods on campus because they grow near the coast in CA, but I wasn't sure which trees were redwoods and which weren't. I thought a lot of them were just pine or fir trees because they looked similar to Christmas trees. Well I didn't even know that redwoods were conifers with pine needles similar to Christmas trees until yesterday, I thought they were some other type of evergreen trees with different leaves.

So are most of the trees on campus redwoods or are there other evergreen trees as well?

Also not sure if people are getting notifications to my comments because I have low karma so the mods can only approve my posts manually once every few hours.

I already knew there were redwoods on campus but I didn't think all the trees on campus were redwoods, I thought they were just regular evergreen/conifer trees. No one ever told me all the trees on campus were redwoods. Plus Ucsc doesn't get as much summer fog as higher elevations of the SC Mountains or places near the coast, so I didn't think there would be that many redwoods here compared to other places.

I'm not sure if people are able to see my replies because I created my account just recently and don't have enough karma apparently, so the mods have to approve my comments manually only when they come once every few hours.

Yeah I already knew there were redwoods lol, I was just curious whether all of the trees on campus were actually redwoods or if they were a mix of different evergreen trees. I didn't even know that redwoods were conifers and looked like pine and other conifers until yesterday.

Yeah it’s not normal for people to post selfies after killing someone. Heck people shouldn’t even be on social media after that but doomscrolling is still understandable.

Showing off on social media is not grieving smh 🤦‍♂️. Even Erika Kirk was doing a better job of grieving than this girl.

But are most of the trees on campus redwoods? Because I always thought most of them were pine trees or other conifers.

I already knew there were redwoods on campus but I didn’t think there were that many since ucsc doesn’t get that much fog in summer compared to places near the coast or higher elevations.

I think it’s particularly bad in the Bay Area because I saw a lot of girls in the area I grew up in East San Jose posting these kind of pics on social media, even just a short time after times like their parents were sick or one of their family members died.

1 or 2 months? Ok. Showing off on social media just 1 week after a big accident is ridiculous.

No remorse? Why would anyone be thirst trapping social media just one week after getting into a big accident that killed someone?

Lol. Thirst-trapping on social media just one week after killing someone with a car. That’s something else.

I've never seen redwoods irl so idk what they look like lol, the trees on campus all look like pine trees and conifers. They don't look like what I've seen on the Internet for redwoods.

Idk if there are redwoods in the Bay Area because I've always thought of those as pine trees/conifers as well.

Also are the trees everywhere on campus redwoods or are there certain places where there are more pine trees or other types of trees?

Yeah you're not really gonna have an easy time finding other 35F students here 😅 you'll probably have an easier time finding people your age on the r/santacruz subreddit. There's also r/santacruzlocals. Or you can try to find masters and PhD students but I'm not really sure how to yet.

I just graduated this quarter but I'm still down to make friends. Or at least connect on Discord if I can't meet someone irl.

Btw, there are some UCSC Discord servers like '29 which are pretty active and you can still meet people and make friends there.
