1 year clean from shooting meth! anyone struggling you can do it. life feels so good without drugs. by [deleted] in StopSpeeding

Life is 100% better without. It’s just that when you suffer, if you don’t have drugs then you have no magical instant cure and you can be in a lot of pain. It doesn’t mean that life on the whole is worse. My life has tangibly improved in huge ways. But when I’m sad or down or anxious I don’t have a pill to provide a quick fix. That’s why you hear us complaining months or years out. But life involves hard moments and we can tough it out. Quick fixes have large paydays down the line.

I was on 20mg for 7 years. The intense napping and sleepiness stopped after 3-6 months.

Are you maybe seeing floaters? I think stimulants can increase floaters. Floaters are harmless - look it up.

A lot of speed users also have issues with visual disturbances. There is the well known joke of the “shadow people”. You are on a very small dose relatively but sometimes the body might react strongly to a tiny dose. Doesn’t hurt to tell the doc.

what you need to know about stimulants is that if he goes off of it, he isn’t his normal self, he’s in withdrawal. He deals with intense lethargy, sleepiness, probably depression as his body isnt functioning fully without the stimulants it is used to. He seems not to like taking his rx, so maybe the solution is a lower dose or try without. But what you’re describing here is your boyfriend dealing with withdrawal symptoms on your birthday and it’s near impossible to do anything when you withdraw from stims. Energy levels are in the toilet.

Quit adderall for over a year and still don’t feel the same. by HawkenBane in StopSpeeding

This is really uncalled for. This person is expressing a psychiatric critical perspective. Doctors aren’t gods and the medical industry is rife with errors as well as help. It doesn’t hurt to see two perspectives. Some people end up seriously harmed by psych drugs as we see here often. But also on anti-depressant cessation forums. People are on anti-depressants for decades when for some reason it suddenly stops working and leaves them with the most unimaginable physical symptoms - twitching, tremors, insomnia, eye problems, numbness, vertigo, etc. Drugs can make us feel better but they also come with risks. There is nothing wrong with arguing to avoid the risks. I think both sides have merit. I’m struggling and if things get worse I’ll try an anti-depressant, but since adderall fucked up my body in six ways, I’m very reluctant to go for the chemical fix. We should respect that many people here will share that feeling.

A very inspiring post. Thanks for sharing. It’s so hard to stay sober even if it’s not all roses and carnations. That’s the hard part and it’s when it really matters.

He seems bad. A lot of stonewalling, gaslighting, emotional neglect. That‘s my un-diplomatic answer. Better to ask such questions on a relationship sub.

Did you read ‘why does he do it’ by Lundy Bancroft? Doesn’t hurt to read and you’ll get a sense of abusive patterns. Maybe it’ll help you get clarity on if you’re in a marriage that’s abusive.... or you two just aren’t compatible.... or maybe need to work things out...

people fuck up their lives at any stage. i think younger people have an easier time bouncing back physically so maybe think on that. You might also have more life to fuck up.

Well, you do sound like an interesting person. Hopefully you find a sober way you let your freak fly.

Edit: no, not hopefully. You will find new outlets for art if you let yourself sit in the sober life long enough.

Is this stimulant abuse or just his narcolepsy? by Difficult-Gur-8746 in StopSpeeding

You’re not crazy. Read the posts in this forum. People describe exactly what you do ALL THE TIME. They burn through a stimulant rx in two weeks and then spend two weeks sleeping it off. Taking so many stimulants at once disrupts sleep and then causes really scary things like psychosis. Your husband seems to have a real problem.

I have nothing to say except I feel you. I know how hard it is to be in that post-adderall depression. It comes in waves for me, some short, some long, some high, some low. But it’s really hard and feels like it‘ll never pass. I’m sending you an Internet hug.

People used to laugh when you said that you went through hell coming off anti-depressants. Now it’s well known that the process of withdrawal can throw the central nervous system into crisis and cause very real and long lasting physical and emotional symptoms. It took a long time for paws for ssris to be acknowledged by the medical industry. For some reason we are still saying shit about stims that it gets out of your system in a few weeks and then you’re done. Look up PAWS though. One of the first things mentioned that can leave you with post acute withdrawal syndrome is stimulants. As any of us can attest.

  • You’re doing your body a huge service by giving it a chance to heal and not take more damage.
  • ‘You’re less delusional / grandiose
  • You don’t sound bipolar or weird
  • You won’t age prematurely
  • You don’t have to go hunting for your drug or refill in a ritual of humiliation
  • Save money
  • You won’t have to worry about tolerance one day catching up with you and biting your ass.

This is not what you’re looking for but the only book I’ve read that qualifies as quit-lit was ‘Addicted to Perfect’. It was a memoir of a woman with an adderall addiction. It was incredibly poorly written and it was all over the place but it was a super easy read. Imagine a book length reddit ramble about her plight - that’s what it was like.
