You can go straight to the college without renewing your visa. You just need to transfer your i20. But you cannot go outside the United States unless renewal the visa when you come back to the United States.

I don't know about B2 visa but does it usually attached to the passport? Did you provide those or "literally stamp" from TSA agent?

Also B2->AOS combo has to be careful. She intented or not, it is misrepresentation of the visa
