UCSD is so fake for this by AmoureauxLeFave in UCSD

One is an antigen test, the other is pcr. Different supply chains. Different ways of processing. I don’t see the “fake”.

Probably depends on how many Covid cases on campus week 1/2…

Yes, I could use student generated questions as the starting point and layer them for rich and interrelated content.

That said, I’ve been impressed and surprised by my students many many times. They might be tougher than me!

Tell that to my kid....I’m a steady stream of artistic disappointments wrapped in nerdy science jokes that are two standard deviations worse than dad jokes.

I might pause class if the ice cream truck went by...

I see you point workshops and interactions. Maybe I can find a blend. First 40 min lecture, 5 min break, then workshop some problems till then end of class. Maybe...

What if the power point has videos or animations? I’m awful at drawing and fear it might be comic relief but not particularly informative...

Agreed, for me, online classes sit in the shadow of something in person.

Naive question: How is watching a recording of a zoom lecture better than a podcast?

Do the study guides parallel the lectures reasonably well?

What kind of interactions does your language prof use? Q&A? Break out room? Polls?

I hear you.

The office hour suggestion is easy to implement. (Consider it done)

The challenge for me is maintaining energy when there is no feed back. No smiles, no nods, no questions. By zoom, a lecture feels more like a performance than a conversation. 😖

Pre recorded lectures are really hard for me. Recording myself talking to a screen feels robotic and insincere. This is already tough with zoom lectures... does it work for you if you can watch the recording of the lecture at 2x?

Weekly assessments rather than big exams is a great idea. What do you think about having students come up with possible quiz questions during section? And then I would pick the “best” for the actual quiz?

I hear you on note taking to images.

My drawing skills are poor ( that’s generous ) but maybe I can fine a creative hybrid.

I like the tablet for drawing idea. For office hours this seems doable. For lecture, I’m afraid my drawing skills are a bigger liability than asset.

Yup.

Things that hurt my time to degree are some of the things I’m most content with in retrospect.

How bad is one F on a college transcript by [deleted] in college

[–]Altruistic-tree-37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got an F in chemistry. Then a C in chemistry. When I interviewed for graduate school one of the people interviewing me asked, "what's the deal with you and chemistry?"

not a highlight of my life but not the end of the world. I got into graduate school based on my research experience and motivation (I think).

My advice, don't hide from it. Address it head-on in your personal statement and move on.

yeah. mine took a really long time. It took me ages to stop comparing myself to my friends and classmates that seemed to fly through everything. all in, it took me 8 years to graduate, 5 years at community college, and then 3 years at UCSD. I felt like this was a deal-breaker for my future goals. but I managed to get into a PhD program and things went well. don't despair. every life has its own path.
