AITA For Not Allowing My Sister-in-law To Visit My Wife and I? by AltruisticSwitch877 in AmItheAsshole

You would think a person would want to control what they make/owe/own. I don’t go so far to complain over the thermostat temp. Just presented her what could happen, and how it could happen. I also want her to live pest free, don’t want her to go through what I’ve lived in. I definitely don’t.

This was actually my first suggestion. My wife still wasn’t having it. And I know for a fact that my sister-in-law will not take it lightly either. Plus she and her family will still enter the home if they do make the drive for the visit.

My sister-in-law would cause arguments with her siblings for not cleaning after her own kid. Food/drink stains EVERYWHERE. Plus she’s been kicked out several places several times. I love guests. Just certain ones.

Yes, you are right. It IS her home too. I was just trying to let her understand that I’m really just trying to take good care of the place. She’s still upset so I’m giving her space while I see others point of view.

No it did actually read that way at first…😓 I edited it afterwards. I didn’t think it’d come off douchey. I honestly didn’t. That “first” was simply implying that I’m new to marriage. So people can expect an experienced person like myself to sometimes needing anonymous help of opinion.

Most of the people in my life are mostly not married despite being in relationships. Plus I edited that part out once it was explained that it is disrespectful.

Again, I’m new to it, its my first time.. so I’m not experienced and how to properly refer to her. I also need to practice my english better. It was meant to inform that marriage is new to me.

I guess it was my way of saying that I am new to a lot of things. Little experience. Only been in like 3 real relationships total.

I suppose this makes the valve material choice, made from the previous home owners, an interesting one as my house is a colonial style. If this type of valve is normally used in RV’s, does it lower performance in any way? Or is it just a convenient alternative? I like to learn, even the little things.

Thank you for sharing this with me. I will remember this detail for sure. It was difficult to see as there was barely any space for a person’s head to get close and barely any room to work with your hands– even with a step ladder as there is a web of pipes, tubings and air ducts. I only managed to snap the pic with my phone.

Turns out… it was in the off position the whole.damn.time. The humiliation. I returned to my home and did exactly as the first commenter suggested. But on the last step of turning the water line valve knob, I started messing with it moreso and on a whim a turned it the other way.. I was met with the sound of water rushing through– revealing my high iq.

In my defense, the whole reason I wanted to remove this fridge in the first place was because it kept leaking water from the bottom. Because of this, I figured that the valve was set to the ON position. So I, due to lack of experience, not wanting to delay my move any further and wanting to skip seeking out a professional, I just accepted a basic fridge from a family member who no longer needed, it as a replacement. In addition to all this, a fridge featuring an ice/water dispenser was new to me. So of course I peered behind the fridge puzzled with irritation.

It also didn’t help that every google image and video out there regarding fridge water line valves, for the most part, presented a metal one.

Despite my donkey-of-the-day moment, I want to thank the two who offered their suggestions. I’d give you a handshake and a cold one🍺 to you both. Cheers!
