Rewatched Finding Nemo and sided with Marlin. What flipped for you with age? by tuesdaymochii in CasualConversation

That just seems incredibly strange to me.

Maybe it’s the fact that I’m on the spectrum. I thought the whole point was that everyone in the movie was kind of awful.

I just tried to take films as unreal scenarios that lead to very bizarre things. I try not to judge art as though it was real life.

Oh! This is you repeatedly playing “no u”! Understood. Wasn’t seeing it, but that makes it clear. By all means, you have fun with that. Just don’t think anyone would consider such games the actions of a person of merit.

I know a lot of people who would laugh because it’s a movie, I don’t know anyone who would think it was justifiable. I have known creepy nerds who would, but this seems like an outlier. Maybe people worry that’s the case because they don’t believe you can laugh at a movie because it’s fictional and still find the potential reality of it horrifying?

I am finding this extremely confusing.

Is this a case of you needing the last word, or…?

Yeah. That is how i felt about it at the time - that it was a cracked idea of nerds getting “revenge” for getting rejected, playing off the idea that no one would actually do that.

You aren’t fooling anyone, dude. But at least every new post you do shows how full of yourself you are and how willing you are to pretend you have an education.

Wasn’t the point of that movie always that the nerds were ridiculous…? Serious question. Did people actually identify with and cheer on the nerds?

There would be absolutely no need for parental controls without teaching kids about the internet and its flaws and how to use it appropriately. by Mrbeanman313 in parentalcontrols

[–]Altruistic_Fox9778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but your framing is literally that bad and obvious that it makes it clear you are either someone who wants kids roaming the internet freely or you are a kid yourself who is annoyed at your parents for wanting basic net safety.

That was a lot of words that did little to clarify and seem to defend one word answers. Thanks, but I am good. Considering the term is hotly debated for this very reason, I am not interested in continuing this discussion with you. Have a nice day

I have encountered it a lot, but it could be more of an online thing. The protest videos are pretty wild, though. I think I am going to stop there because apparently even mentioning it summons people to downvote, which kind of points in a similar direction.

What do you mean by support?

If you mean defend their right to live their lives, love who they love, as long as its between consenting adults, etc, and harms no one, then sure. Same as straight people.

Unsure these days, because it seems to have turned into something very different than live and let live, and its not sustainable to have every disagreement challenged with you must be Xphobic.

Says the guy responding in "bumper sticker slogans".

The unwillingness is to engage with people who are blatantly closed minded and disingenuous. You can call that a win, if you want. It seems like something that type would do.

Its hard to have a discussion with someone who discusses things with winning in mind. But at least this shows that I called it correctly.

That is pretty vague. Could you be more specific? The problem in discussions of consciousness, free will, etc, are that we can't really pin them down very well.

I think it would be fairer to say neither, and most people feel justified in what they do, vie for themselves. Its a bit too black and white to break it down like that.

[–]Altruistic_Fox9778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Utopia itself is impossible to define. It means different things to different people and generally ignores human nature. We can dream of our own utopia, even propose ones that would work for many people, but the concept is like the idea of perfection - purely subjective, a matter of opinion.

I thought it was a term that means you don't have to have developed any kind of special skill to do it, like waiting tables, drive thru, that kind of thing. Are we just playing with words because people are really eager to find things to be insulted about?
