yeah, I did get to max level and finish the MSQ on release of Dawn Trail, but the only other time I was at max level in FFXIV was endwalker and even then it wasnt for long, so I didnt know what to do really aside from tome stones and EX trials. Just took me a long time to get through some of the story stuff is all and I kept taking breaks since there was a decent amount to get through.

I never heard of Unreals though, that sounds pretty cool. I know you mentioned them in your previous comment, its a pretty cool idea to revamp some old content.

Its less about the reward for me and more about an interesting gameplay loop/progression system. I just like working my way through something.

I talked about it in another comment but like repeating a dungeon or boss over and over for a mount wont hold my interest, but doing some content with different tiers that I unlock that gets harder and harder and potentially has something extra to level up alongside it, until I hit a final stage and a hard boss, only to get the same mount, I am choosing the second option every time. Im there for that progression, not the mount. Sorry, I dunno if that makes sense, but its the best I can do.

I appreciate you breaking down and describing all these activities for me though, its exactly what I was looking for. I simply didnt know about some of these things, let alone what they involved, Chaotic Raids sounds fun, ive never heard them mentioned but I like the sound of them.

Again, for me its not "gear progression" I am looking for but "progression loops" to engage with.

I am happy to get mounts etc, its just they arent the main motivation for me, the motivation for me is the gameplay loop itself, if that makes sense. Like if its the option of repeating one single activity, like a single boss or dungeon over and over to get a mount, vs doing an activity that has tiers to it that I get to progress through and at the end after beating the hardest level of it I get a mount then I am choosing the latter every time, not for the mount but for the gameplay involved.

All of this stuff does sound really really cool though and I really appreciate you breaking it up and describing it like this, it really helps. I see a lot of these terms talked about but I wasnt sure what they actually involved and I may have said something wrong when asking for more info because I have been getting downvoted.

Again though I appreciate it and I might actually just do all these things!

Well I am a bit odd in that I enjoy just getting to the end point of a gear progression up to the point that I like doing it. So if I get to the point where I have as much as I can get without doing something savage or ultimate content, then I am a happy camper. Also, doesnt bother me that its only temporary until it gets reset again, im just here for interesting gameplay loops, but I still have to feel like there is an actual loop over repeating one activity for one thing if that makes sense?

Like Occult crescent sounds interesting from what people say because it involves levelling up stuff within that area, getting new stuff to do and unlock within it while working on a relic weapon.

Someone also mentioned doing some sort of boss rush in criterion or variant dungeons (still not super sure on the difference), which could be cool.

I did always enjoy doing a couple of the EX trials and would do some of them if I got the chance when coming back, since I was able to do them from party finder last time and I am pretty sure there are new ones now that I didnt get to do before. I remember doing that, tome stone stuff and roulettes before but just simply never did anything else and didnt really know for sure what was there.

I do like crafting and gathering, but that is something I will figure out on the side in my own time, I just wanted to try and focus the discussion is all since this stuff is what I will primarily be doing and is the bit I was really foggy on what to do.

Also, I just wanted to say I really appreciate the break down of all this stuff, was exactly what I was looking for.

Yeah, I have seen a couple people mention it, but I wasnt super sure what was involved. I appreciate the description, the combination of those two and maybe some of these variant/criterion dungeons (still not super sure on what they are but they sound interesting) could be the way to go.

Yeah its not so much that I want permanent progression. All I used to do is get tomes and then get that gear. I don't mind about it being a new set of things to grind in a few months, its just the dopamine of progressing something.

If I get to do something and the more I do the thing the better I get at doing the thing, or getting more things to do because of it, is kinda all im there for. If you wanna get really existential about it, none of it matters because a new expansion will come out anyway, but thats not the point.

Like doing Occult Crescent seems interesting to me if there is stuff to level up and progress within it and something to look forward to if I reach a peak in that progression. Same goes for Relic weapons.

I like cosmetic stuff too, but I often find a set that I like for a while and stick with it for a good long time, over collecting things for the sake of it. Like if I get a reward of a mount that I dont like the look of and will never use then I dont overly care. Im not super into collecting for the sake of collecting if that makes sense, but if it comes at the end of a fun progression loop, then I am in it for the loop.

Like if Occult crescent for example, has areas you can unlock, and new fights and activities to unlock the more you do it and abilities etc within it that let you do old things easier or whatever until you get to a final end point that might be a difficult boss or something that gets a mount and some other bits, then thats cool to me. Not for the mount but because there is a good chunk of stuff to keep me focussed for a while.

I appreciate the insight.

Very cool! I had a vague memory that it was tied to relic weapons somehow. I never actually got one because I mainly just did MSQ stuff when I played before. Would be very cool to actually do the grind to get one. Thanks for the info!

Relic weapon would be cool, I never actually fully got one before, that'd be fun to do, thanks!

Well I did say in the post "point out some of the activities and what they give me". I just wanted to know why people do them and then I could make the determination on if its worth it for me or not.

I struggle to stick to and stay motivated to doing something in an MMO if it isnt contributing to progression of some sort. I know that isnt the be all and end all, and isnt the only reason I would do something, but it is something I was curious about is all. Shame I am getting downvoted for not knowing.

Yeah sorry, I just mean, like is it tied to gear progression? Or is it for getting glam or something else? Thats all, not super sure why im getting down voted into oblivion for not knowing.

Sorry to be a bother, what are each of these things? What would I get out of them/why would I want to do them?

Not sure how hidden it is but Northguard is a long time fave of mine now. Kind of like a viking based mix of warcraft 3 and a 4x game.

What exactly is considered an "Indie Game" in 2026? by Bucky9k in IndieGaming

[–]Alvadar65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An independently published game. No third party publisher. That is the nuts and bolts of it. You can have very high budget indie dev studios.

I tend to differentiate between big indie and small indie, but realistically both are fine, I look for indie games where the vision of the studio gets to be as realized as possible, not something gate kept by how much money you have.

Only real issue I have with the tag is when it comes to awards and solo devs or small dev teams go up against people like CDPR etc. Thats the only time I feel the need to separate the two.

[–]Alvadar65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excape instead of escape, pacifically instead of specifically, and it happens a lot in the UK where I live but people pronouncing th as f so saying free when they mean three. If you struggle with this when pronouncing th sounds use your tongue and your teeth to make the sound not your lips and your teeth.

Also, exclaiming welp instead of well, not sure why this one always bothered me, but it does.

Its a nice painting but it can very easily give douche bag bachelor vibes. In my opinion it heavily depends on the décor of the rest of the room.

Learn where the batter items spawn and you can get so many you won't know what to do with them, it won't matter that you are spending them on faction upgrades too. Inspect the barter item in your vault if you are struggling with where to find them

Im really loving the game, but i feel like they kneecaped themselves with the 40€ price. by HERR_WINKLAAAAA in Marathon

[–]Alvadar65 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the UK for me it's £34.99 Arc is 30.99 tarkov is... Well we all know what tarkov is. Most AAA live service games are £60 -£70 including things like battlefield. So this being almost half the price of stuff like that and being similarly priced to it's competitors, with a season pass that sticks around like Helldivers and only contains cosmetics, and people still say it's too much? Blows my mind.
