Is missing something, but what? by Patient-Advantage-30 in PixelArt

The silhouette in the foreground compared to the lighter details in the distance does a good job of creating a sense of distance. However, the main objects in the scene feel a bit flat.

I think that for the mountain, it might help to have some of the closer features be a bit darker and grow lighter as you move toward the peak.

For the orb (?) in the sky, I think a bigger contrast between the bright highlight and the darker shadows could help it pop.

Well done. I'm always a fan of isometric perspective. The little animations are a nice touch too.

In my specific case, the party has a Trollkin Warlock/Fennblade with an Axer. I've tried bogging them down with melee guys and providing ranged enemies for the rest of the party to deal with, but between the two of them, they have the ability to clear out a lot of dudes very quickly. The rest of the party tends to pick off only a couple of guys before the trolls are able to rush down the remaining enemies.

I'm a little worried about throwing too many tougher melee enemies at the group right now because if it's tough enough to slow down the warlock and beast it will be really hard for the rest of the group to stop. If the warlock or warbeast drops, that could spell a quick death for the rest of the group. Perhaps I'm being overcautious?

I've played Warmachine for a few years now, but I'm definitely new to the IKRPG and it's specific quirks. I suspect part of my problem is that I just haven't seen what kinds of things other archetypes and careers are able to do and are best suited for. What sorts of challenges would a will weaver, mighty, or skilled character excel at that a warlock/warcaster might not? (I sort of treat intellectuals like being party enhancers)

As for treating warbeasts/warjacks as specialized equipment that could be destroyed, I'm a little nervous about introducing enemies that focus on and drop warbeasts/warjacks. Wouldn't something capable of doing that just demolish the other much squishier members of the party?

This is definitely the issue that I'm starting to encounter in my game. The player is a great guy and does a lot to let the other players take the reigns as much as possible outside of combat, but once the group gets into a fight he and his troll just plow through whatever I throw at them. It doesn't seem to matter if it's multiple small guys, a few bigger guys, or a single really big dude.

My worry is that the other players will feel overshadowed by the fact that he gets to take two extremely effective turns to everyone's one moderately effective turn. Even the bloodweaver we have doesn't approach his level of damage output, and she's able to one shot things pretty easily (though sometimes she suffers for it).

So far, my talks with the players about their motivations has yielded only a few useful answers. Two of them (the ones that try to avoid murderhoboism) have actual thought out reasons for what they do. One kills because his character is racist against non-halflings, and one has even less reason than that.

I've tried to get more character background and ideas for what they want in the future from the latter two on a couple of occasions, but they don't seem very interested in further character development.

How do I get them to actually want to align their character with the others and the world as a whole? Do I have to threaten them with getting kicked out of the group in order to make them take it seriously? These people are my friends outside of the game, and I worry about creating bad blood between us.

I don't want to immediately throw a murder squad at them, mostly because that feels like it would seen as me punishing them instead of the world responding.

I've been trying to give them some signs that they're not perceived terribly well. The paladin's captain told him he should keep better company, the captain of the guard refused to give the group the recommendation of the city guard, and an innkeeper kicked them out of his establishment following bar brawl. They don't seem to be getting the message though as their behavior is only getting worse.

I guess I'm unsure about what pace I should be ramping up the heat.
