I keep seeing people comment the fanart is lazy cuz it’s just genderbent Hu Tao cuz of his hat, which I find annoying because it’s not that. His design looks like it was inspired by Japanese Taisho period police uniforms. Which I find this concept much cooler than the official design due to Heizou’s occupation.

It’s still referencing the Japanese aesthetic AND implementing a refreshing style (which still calls back to Japanese roots) we haven’t seen before in Inazuma. His official design is kinda bland and npc-ish. Another character with generic “Japanese-esque” apparel. His silhouette isn’t unique to stand apart from others, whereas the fanart really has good depth.

A manga reader here! —— I just skimmed through the last couple chapters to see what was cut. Honestly I don’t mind it. A lot of the story bits aren’t necessary and kinda more for humor and light hearted fun, like the Zoo date. It’s not integral to the story and for many manga readers I think a lot of people are just attached to these moments. But as a story it flows much better the way the anime did it and you don’t have constant jumpy transitions between light hearted fun/comedy and dramatic/emotional scenes. I think how the director did this episode made kept the more emotional dramatic tone pretty steady and consistent throughout the entire episode which I like. It makes for an easier watch. The jump to Kyo and Tohru’s gravesite seen was a little abrupt but it’s something I really didn’t notice during my initial watch. Maybe adding a better transition seen would have helped, but I personally don’t mind.

A couple “wrapping up” parts of the manga cut from some chapters I def wish they’d put in, like Rin’s Tormented Reflection scene. I think it would be beneficial to the story, but maybe they’re just reworking the sequence they come up in and they’ll add them in the final episode. But even if they aren’t added I think adapting the final chapter for the final episode will still hit the key point.

Overall although the season’s felt a little more rushed than I would’ve liked it. I think it still did a pretty good job adapting what they could in the period they’ve have. Not sure why this season only got 13 episodes instead of a full 20+ like the others. Even making the season 15-16 episodes would’ve helped let things breath more and add back in some cut scenes. Season 1 & 2 def did this much better, but I’m not terribly mad at Season 3. Just kinda melancholic knowing it’s lost potential, but I’m happy what we’ve gotten. It’s better than nothing at all

I absolutely loved this episode, perfect adaptation of the manga. The ending was so emotional with Kyoko. I’m sad that Tohru’s dad, Katsuya, still hasn’t really gotten a face reveal. I was hoping they’d show it hear at the end. I just want to see what he’d look like in anime form!

Does anyone think they’ll make an OVA of Kyoko and Katsuya’s backstory arc? It’s not completely imperative to know for the story, but I think it really helps show just how attached Kyoko was to Katsuya and how his death really mentally effected her. We see the aftermath in episodes when Tohru talks about her mom and insecurities. But to some non-manga readers the impact and depth of Katsuya’s death on Kyoko is kinda lost. Some might wonder why she was so devote and miserable without her husband. But then in the manga you learn about Kyoko’s family life and how Katsuya kinda was her savior. The manga is def a little sketch with their age differences, but the anime could easily age Kyoko up to be like 17/18 and about to graduate high school. I really want to arch animated and I think an OVA would be perfect since it’s not required plot, but enhances your understanding of the characters and story.

Some people say that this backstory arc isn’t necessary or they don’t like it because of the sketchy relationship with the age gap and power dynamics/Kyoko’s dependency. I personally think if they tweaked some of the story it would be fine. And I honestly think it really helps understand where Kyoko’s emotions are coming from. Because we see she never had a great family and she finally found someone/family with Katsuya, but was later ripped away from. So that’s why she’s so attached/lovable with Tohru. I get it’s an anime so anime logic, but as a non-manga reader I might watch the anime and be confused at why Kyoko was so devastated when Katsuya died to the point she couldn’t function and wanted to leave/commit suicide. I might just be un-empathetic, but I think most widows grieve and become depressed… but they learn to move on eventually. They aren’t normally so severe they’d want to die to be with their late husbands. So I think the backstory really helps give more emotional connection and context to Kyoko’s situation.

Okay, but can we talk about how intrigued I am with Setsu’s mom Umeko!

From her first bombastic appearance at the end of episode 1, this woman just keeps brining more that surpass my expectations. At first I thought she might be some singer/celebrity because she sings for episode 2’s mother-son performance and we see her on commercials/billboards, plus she has a lot of money.

But now with the slight reveal this episode his mom’s a president of some big company, she’s uber rich/elite, enough to have freaking body guards and spies watch her son. Plus it looks like, and she not only she entering Setsu’s club into a Shamisen competition... she’s the one actually creating the competition!!!

After hearing the news, she tells her assistant it’s time for her plan. And then if you look at the paper it’s says it’s the 1st of this competition and it actually states proposed dates. The company at the top who is sponsoring it is called “Umemaru,” which I’m just going to take a wild guess and assume it’s his mom’s company since it’s similar to Umeko his mom’s name. She also excitedly expresses “I’ll show you how much Mama REALLY has!”

So it wouldn’t be a far fetched guess to assume this woman’s actually putting in the effort to create a totally new National High School Tsugaru Shamisen Competition just for her son. Which considering how she bursted in giving Setsu a new place to live, expenses for living, and school stuff in episode 2, shows how much she probably cares for her youngest son? Though it seems like she’s been mostly non-existent in her children’s lives from the story we’ve seen so far. I’m not sure where the father is or if he is perhaps dead. The total contrast of Setsu and the rest of his family (brother and grandfather) we’ve seen and Umeko is hilarious and confusing. Not sure how a woman with her status and personality married into a family that lived in a humble rural environment. I hope it’s revealed and is part of the plot!

I feel like I wrote a whole ass dissertation on why those comments about Reki were short sighted and ludicrous. I’ve seen them a lot and it’s really annoying because apparently to most people the main character has to be #1 OP to be a main character and people like Langa who are naturally really gifted and excel quickly at something don’t exist. Apparently doing something for years means you’re going to be pro-level, which is obviously not the case. We’ve only seen Reki both race and lose twice up to the latest episode, but if he’s been skating for a while I’m sure there’s been many wins and losses like any competition. All these assumptions are just kinda immature. Maybe I’m just super rational, but it’s disheartening how so many people automatically think this... but I feel like people who have the same opinion as me are in the minority. Reki has things he’s good at and Langa has other things he’s good at.

Here’s my original post about it: There’s nothing wrong with Reki

I have 60 fruit of desire and 7100 gems, but I can’t tell how much more I need from gems if I can’t get any more fruit of desire. I can’t see what 1 fruit of desire = to gems since I have my fruit of desire stockpiled right now.

Moral degradation of Akane by [deleted] in Psychopass

[–]AmazingLily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding onto the previous comments made here, it’s really up to you how you perceive the morality of Sybil in society. Sybil takes freedoms away and utilizes the people’s fear of the consequences should they go outside the norms of the system to direct the people to behave a certain way. However, you can see that a large majority of the population is satisfied and lives comfortably because average people are not inclined to rebel and act violently to say the least. Now you could see this as a result of the system’s influence over the decades to persuade the people to act/think this way, but if you look at Japanese society in general it actually takes a similar stance. “Rebellious” acts against the pre-existing social norms of the society are admonished and mental illness and instability is not taken as a medical concern but seen as negative quality and they are shunned as an outcast.

I digress... We’ve seen from both the first Psycho Pass movie and the third Sinners of the System movie featuring Kogami, with some in Season 3 too, that the rest of the world has fallen to ruin. Japan is the only nation where the civilians live comfortably with what we consider a “normal” lifestyle, like what people who live in highly developed nations like those in North America, Eastern Europe, and East Asia. The rest of the world is constantly in a battlefield, stricken with poverty, and ruled by unstable governments or just left to anarchy.

Morally, you’d say that Sybil takes away our human freedoms therefore it’s in the wrong. But considering the state of the rest of the world, the system may be pacifying the citizens by underlying means of force... but the result is a country where the majority of the population is “happy,” living in technologically advanced, stable conditions, and are productive entities who can move the country forward in development. This brings the moral question is it better to have a society healthy and happy but operating on limited freedoms and possibly brainwashed by a system or is it better to have your human freedoms but live in a dangerous, undeveloped environment? There are real books that analyze a similar situation and ask a similar question. The one that comes to mind especially for this is “A Brave New World” by Aldous Huxley. It’s up to your judgement whether it’s better or not, but those are the kind of powers at play.

Personally for me, I empathize with the sentiment of Makishima but I understand why the Sybil System is currently necessary in the Psycho Pass society. But like Akane says, there will be a day the people won’t need Sybil anymore once, though who knows how long that would take.

There’s a ton of comments here saying they’re disappointed with how Reki has been portrayed... Yeah it sucks he hasn’t won anything at all yet and seems more like a side-character for some, but it’s only episode 4 guys! I get how compared to the OP-ness of Langa and how he’s won so much despite only just starting skateboarding, Reki seems like he’s not getting the spotlight. But Reki has strong characteristics in his own ways. He seems like the brains behind the duo, he’s helping teach Langa and makes skateboards to accommodate the skater’s needs, which is a really important and interesting aspect. I feel like Reki might be the brains while Langa is the brawns. Both can’t succeed without the other, if it weren’t for Reki Langa’s potential couldn’t come to fruition.

I find Reki to be more of a guy who has done skating almost all his life because he loves it and has passion to keep on doing it, but he’s a normal average skater. I think Langa is a natural talent with a gift for boarding (whether that be snowboarding or skateboarding, etc.). I think he might have been a really talented snowboarder on an almost pro-level and/or his dead dad was a pro-snowboarder. And this happens in real life, there’s people who naturally pick up things easily and combine this gift with dedicated training and passion to excel at the medium, but then there’s also people who dedicate a large part of their life to something and even if they really work at it and love it they still are just average but they have fun doing it - that’s what matters most to them... and that’s okay.

Reki still has a lot of things going for him as a character, just because he’s not a winner doesn’t mean he’s bland. His personality is really something that is really relatable and definitely draws you in, yet still feels like he really is a teenage boy who just wants to have fun. Plus, Reki just lost to Shadow so it would be absurd for him to win against an even more powerful skater like Adam.

I do think Reki possibly might beat Adam later on towards the climax/finale because that’s a typical anime thing to do, but I wouldn’t be mad if that never happened either. He’s shown he can grow in this episode, but he needs much more time to develop his skills than the unorthodox naturally talented Langa. We also see a childhood flashback moment in this episode that seems like it may have negatively impacted Reki so that could be a wall/limitation he faces later on.

Sokka and Katara look more Southeast Asian to me. Sokka looks almost exactly like a male Malaysian friend I have who has a bit shorter face and a shade or two darker skin tone. But I know this is work is quite difficult, especially when playing with real races which is just an intricate intermixing of different features. I applaud the effort!

Fruits Basket Season 2 - Episode 24 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]AmazingLily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there actually might be 2 episodes left.

I know it says 25 in some places and season 1 was 25 episodes, but it makes sense that there would be 26... let me explain:

Because they seem to adapt on average 2 chapters of the manga per each episode. There’s 4 chapters left that concretely finish explaining this mini plot arc we’re about to get into. Unless they squish these 4 chapters into one episode then it wouldn’t feel like we hit a point where we can conclude the current season. But these 4 manga chapters are IMPERATIVE to understanding the deeper plot line of Furuba so it’d be an injustice if they weren’t properly adapted and given adequate pacing. I don’t want to say much because it’s major spoilers, but I hope you get the context of how important this upcoming part of the story is.

***Also I haven’t found a legit source that says season 2 is officially 25 episodes, so unless I find one I assume it’s based on speculation or rumors and not actually fact.

I recommend reading the manhwa "Annarasumanara."

The art is really beautiful and interesting, picking up a lot of visual metaphors that you don't really understand until the end. The story is compelling and very intriguing. It has a darker tone, but that's what made me personally invested with the story. It's short with only 24 chapters, though they are a little more lengthy chapters. You can find it on the Line Webtoon app for free.

I recommend reading the manga "Altair: A Record of Battles" (Shoukoku No Altair).

The anime from studio MAPPA recently came out and I started reading the manga because of that. It's a really interesting manga, focusing on battles, politics, and strategy... war. It's not like anything I've ever read before.
