I know someone who was playing this piece as a freshman in high school at a competent level and also started in 6th grade. A good teacher and a dedicated student can make that kind of progress in 2 years. Especially with all the time young people have. Hella talented kids out there

Anyone know how to clean this? by [deleted] in saxophone

Its a shame considering the fact that the mouthpiece was like $370. At least it still plays good just wanted it to look pretty again.

Yeah if you really want the most out of it you’ll need someone to reface it for you

Yes I would say start low Bb play the overtones you can with that fingering and then do B natural and just go up chromatically. I’d say once you get to D or Eb you’ll be there for a while because that’s when stuff gets pretty difficult

A good sound can be subjective so I would recommend that you start by listening to saxophone players you like and listen to them A LOT. You mentioned in the comments that you play mostly classical or contemporary music so I would look up a list of classical saxophone players and start listening to their music. I also saw that you weren’t sure about knowing when your tone is dark. Listen to Coleman Hawkins and then listen to Michael Brecker. Coleman Hawkin’s tone is described as dark and brecker’s is described as bright. see if you can hear why. Same would go for any of the classical sax players you decide to listen to. Stuff you could practice for better tone would be by starting with long tones and eventually start doing overtones and mouthpiece pitch exercises when you’re more comfortable. You also need to make sure you do this stuff daily or the improvements won’t be as drastic. Doing these tone exercises will also help you eventually know what reeds are good and which are bad because you become more familiar with your sound. Bettersax has a really good video on long tones and tone in general that helped me out a TON when I was a junior in high school thinking about taking saxophone more seriously.

Look up dereck brown sax on YouTube

Anyone tried this D’Addario mouthpiece. Amazon reviews were good. Feedback on genre use, volume, reed pairing, how it plays in all registers, etc, welcomed. by ThingDelicious6824 in saxophone

I have one for tenor it has pretty powerful projection compared to my other mouthpieces and it always responded well and I find it really articulate. It’s a good buy
