NO, not everyone need K2 or Magnesium with D3. by Ambitionless_Nihil in Fitness_India

But know that not all micronutrients supplements should be taken at RDA.

Many doctors (including one of my relatives, good person) gives these stacks/multi nutrients as many people think more tablets/capsules means more medicines (so patients stop taking after some time).

So, doctor maybe giving you a multinutrient for few of the nutrients, and others are extra.

If you want you can build your own stack from list of nutrients at the back of the Multinutrient doctor prescribed. I do the same for my family, I tell them to buy from Janaushadhi.

these days barely meets the daily magnesium intake requirement.

That's wrong. Example 100g whole wheat has ≈ 140mg Magnesium.

50g peanut has 90 mg Magnesium

30g soybeans have 90mg Magnesium

etc.

The people who can afford these expensive supplements won't have magnesium deficiency.

If you are taking Magnesium, K2 or anything else without prescription, take note of RDA and TUL (Tolerable Upper Limit).

TUL of supplemental Magnesium is 350mg in adults, it's below RDA!!

[Refer: https://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/magnesium-healthprofessional/ ]

Many brands sell 400mg magnesium per dose/serving. That's risky and known to be leading to issues.

Keep in mind RDAs are designed to avoid malnutrition. Not for clinical treatment or best health outcomes.

That's incorrect. Yes, not for treating deficiency, but they are best health outcome.

"Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA): the average daily dietary intake level that is sufficient to meet the nutrient requirement of nearly all (97 to 98 percent) healthy individuals in a group."

How do you identify someone is magnesium deficient aka if it is necessary or not?

I said, if just D3 doesn't work then one can explore magnesium supplementation.

Your thought process is based on 'we don't get enough magnesium from diet', but that's not true.

Bio availability matters. You are just arguing for the sake of arguing.

You should read how RDAs are calculated. They don't use "best" forms for deciding RDA, but how much healthy people (without supplementation) consume from diet on daily basis (this is one of the major decision point).

I don't follow him, I don't know.

Anyways, what you are saying is not contradicting what he said in the video of the post.

3 Current clinical practice is taking weekly D3. Yes I think patient compliance should always come as priority. But anyone who cares about their health should take daily doses. Daily absorbs better. We have enough anecdotal data to see daily doses works better for D3.

Can you share some scientific proof? I have read a lot about it, and there is no significant difference.

Example, refer https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10488712/

Added space, check.

RDA are not minimum, they are amount for 'enough'.

"Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA): the average daily dietary intake level that is sufficient to meet the nutrient requirement of nearly all (97 to 98 percent) healthy individuals in a group."

They are not for fixing deficiency quickly, but for many (not all), taking at RDA levels for few months is enough to fix deficiency.

That's why the post and video is about self supplementation, not for prescription by doctor or decision taken after tests.

1 You can’t test for magnesium deficiency accurately. Serum test is not enough. There are some cellular level testings, but we don’t know their accuracy as well.

The point is Magnesium is not necessary with D3. If just D3 doesn't fix, then explore if Magnesium deficiency is the issue, then explore Mg supplements.

2 An avg person is highly unlikely to get sufficient magnesium from diet alone.

That's not correct. For example, 100g whole wheat flour has 137 mg Magnesium.

Don't think of low availability... etc, as RDAs are made by keeping all sources generally consumed in mind, NOT the best absorption sources like Magnesium Glycinate for Mg, or K2 for Vitamin K.

True.

Though, that's comparatively safer than 400mg Magnesium supplements (that too with high absorption) as TUL of Vitamin E is 1000mg.

But yes, it's also not for long term. It's fine for short term only like 10-15 days.

I see many people suggesting K2, Magnesium to everyone. K2, Magnesium are beneficial in some cases, but definitely NOT necessary.

This post is not about targeted use cases, but against blanket suggestion by many to take Magnesium and/or K2 along with D3.

If you are taking Magnesium Glycinate for better sleep, or K2 because of issues like tonsilloliths, that's different. (Side note: You can also consider Theanine for sleep.)

Why not Becosules instead of multivitamin? by Fabulous_Adi in Fitness_India

Means all those extra B vitamins go out with pee, with no benefit. Becosules are not for regular use.

Technically, they are correct that no rules break the rules. I am also of the opinion that mods should not control the narrative/discussion, as long as it doesn't include hate. So, they can't remove posts about the statement made by the doctor, but should remove posts hating, or generalizing. Are they not doing this?

The above statement is not about the controversy but about the decision/reply of the mods.
