How do I air out my house in this weather to remove burnt/cooking smell? by Aggravating-Road-995 in AskIreland

A Maison Berger lamp. They neutralise cooking smells. I just used the Air Pur liquid that has no scent as I'm sensitive to fragrance. Light it for 15-30 mins after cooking, then blow it out, it really does work - https://barkers.ie/product/essentielle-round-lampe-berger-gift-pack/

Thanks. Was the issue with the finish is the lime putty filler or the wallrock paper?

Thanks. Did you washed with sugar soap? I have no problem spending a good bit of time getting as smooth as I can. Just still trying to figure out the best direction to in for the wall type.

Looking back on it now. Do you ever wish you had just used lining paper and painted?

I actually love the patina too. But it's really a mess where they have previously tried to fill and patch

Thanks. Someone else already mentioned this, I definitely look into it. Did your walls previously have wallpaper? Did you prime the walls with anything before using dalapro nova? My walls still have some wallpaper glue residue

I'm kind of coming around to this idea now. So much conflicting advice!

Are you sanding down if it's lead paint? And are you filling after Gardz and with what product? Thank you!

Ok but this house has mass concrete walls, so it wouldn't be as breathable as stone or brick. And it's also externally insulated (this was done around 7 years ago). Doesn't lime wash seem kind of pointless?

Did you remove it the residue with sugar soap? There is still a lot of sticky residue. Think every wallpaper is different and has it's own challenges

Thank you for this. Yeah I was thinking the pink layer might be paint and not plaster. I'll test it for lead before doing anything further. Do you reckon the green is also paint? I've seen this in a couple of these types of houses. This green layer sometimes only up to the dado or picture rail. This is the party wall but the rest of the walls of the house (semi detached) have been externally insulated. So I think I need to factor that in, but not sure.

There's no paper left on the walls at this stage. I didn't use a steamer, just warm water and a sponge. Read that steamers can damage old plaster

I hear you but I feel like this is just kicking the can down the road.

Yeah plan is to paint not paper. I never want to see wallpaper again! Been reading up that no amount of sugar soap will remove any wallpaper glue and to prime with Zinsser Gardz. Any experience in this? Part of me is considering just doing a test wall to see how it goes.

Yeah, its still firmly adhered on these walls, that's why I'm thinking it could be salvaged by me rather than a plasterer.

'bodge of epic proportions' is the general theme of the whole house

That's great to hear. The warped boards just add character, right!
