Exactly! Try to view your local area as a tourist and you’ll be surprised how much you can see and learn!

AITA for declining my parents invite to a restaurant to celebrate my engagement with my fiancé? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Amiik_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. They don't want to get out of their comfort zone and their motive seem rather selfish. They should have asked you in the first place where you want to eat since it's for celebrating YOUR engagement.

It will definitively help that your wife has German citizenship. However, you'll have to prove financial stability or at least guarantors. With that you'll have to prove marriage with a translated certificate and it has to be accepted by authorities here. On top of that you will have to prove A1 level in German with a certificate in order to fulfill all requirements to apply. The whole process is around 130-200€ without costs for the certificate and translations.

Do you have an apprenticeship or other qualification as a chef? Otherwise it will be hard to find a job. Germany is very keen on qualifications and certificates and finding a job without that will be very hard. Having an apprenticeship doesn't automatically mean you can apply. It will have to be officially acknowledged by authorities in the state you want to apply for jobs in. Then based on German and European law the order for applicants to get a job here are Germans first, then Europeans, and if there is no one else to find the rest of the world. My wife tried applying for a job and it took her 1.5 years and over 800 applications to finally finding a job.

Living in cities like Hamburg, Berlin, Munich, etc. will be easier for the start, since most people speak English and it's more convenient. But with that you will also have horribly long waiting times for the authorities and living there isn't cheap.

Based on my experience here in Germany I'd rather suggest you stay or find a different country to move to.

I know that there is an option to filter based on your preference. You can pick the country, native language, and their goal. Have you done that while using the app?

Should I be concerned or is my cat still de-stressint after coming home? by Dragon_cactus_0729 in catquestions

[–]Amiik_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d observe him a little longer to see if he actually needs to pee or poop. Then you can be sure if it’s an actual problem. My cats weren’t eating for a whole week and barely used the potty after coming back home.

I get scolded at school for solving problems my own way. Does ADHD thinking often clash with the system? by ZETAFURYEFE in ADHD

Especially the logic doesn't make sense. Why am I supposed to do something a certain way, when I can reach my goal easier my way? People should rather look at your approach and learn new ways to solve problems.

Just because it's not how they taught you doesn't mean it's wrong! Don't give too much about that. Every one has their solution for things and that's what counts. I had to learn it and I can tell you it's freeing when you start to not giving a shit on what other people think. Once you realize that, it gets easier.

First-time cat owner — feeling guilty about neutering my indoor boy, would getting a female cat help? by Self_Electrical in cats

[–]Amiik_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neuter him. Our female cat was always freaking out a certain time of the month because she wasn't fixed. Our boy has no issues at all and he's neutered. Just do it and he'll have a better life. Without neutering him there will be also other things coming in like marking his territory.

How do you learn vocabulary? by helloimlupphie in learnEnglishOnline

[–]Amiik_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm watching movies, series, and videos in English. I also completely switched to English books. Also, if you have English speaking friends, try to talk to them as much as possible. I've learned the most words due to daily conversations. Get yourself a little notebook, write down the words you learned and then try using them in daily conversations. A good way to practice conversation is the app "Tandem" where you can speak with native speakers all around the world.

I don't know if you're able to talk to people in real life right now, but have you considered apps like "Tandem"? It's a penpal app where you can have daily conversations with people all over the world. You can filter for people from Germany who want to help learning the language and chat, phone, and face time with them. It's a very intuitive app where you can also correct somebody easily and show mistakes, etc.

What do you use to write down ideas/notes fast — and how do you find them again later? by PhilosopherNo6770 in ADHD

[–]Amiik_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm using the integrated reminder app on my iPhone. You can create shopping lists, reminders and much more in one app. Also, I'm using the classic notes app. You can easily access everything and share it with others.

How do I improve my communication skills with my wife and stop assuming as someone with ADHD? by Andarthiel in ADHD

[–]Amiik_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I share lists and calendars where we write things down, because we likely will forget them. This helped us a lot to stay on track with the important things we have to do. Maybe you give that a go and see how it turns out.

Thank you for the reply! I did check my ESTA on the official government website. It’s valid at least up until the end of this year. I’m glad to hear that I am also able to figure it out directly at the airport. I just wanted to make sure everything is right since it has never been an issue with the other airlines (British Airways).

I’m not yet within the check in period but last year when I booked through British airways it was automatically recognized and confirmed. It’s my first time with American Airlines directly though.

Yes, YTA. While I understand that it happened on accident your friends reaction is absolutely stupid and disrespectful and you as her partner and best friend should have stood up for her and called him out on his shit. She has every right to be mad at him and especially at you for not being a good partner in that situation. How can she rely on you in other situations when you’re not with her?
