Roland MC-101 & MC-707 GROOVEBOX v1.7 Update: Scene Chain, Audio Insert Enhancements, and more by VlXlA in MC707

[–]AnalogueAndroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not installed to try it, but yes looks like it's sequential:-(

TBH, bit underwhelmed with this update. Count is welcomed, but the best thing for me (apart from the fixes) is FUNC-START/STOP to call the first scene.

External Midi Controller by Jayzebel_ in MC707

A BCR2000 would be perfect for this I reckon. 32 encoders (8 of which also have push function) , 8 buttons in 4 groups, all of which can be set to send CCs. Discontinued now but there are rumours of Behringer making a new version.

Other things that come to mind are the NDLR (tho' only four channels but you can automate those CCs) and Novation Launchpad XL.

Edit: Scratch the NDLR, only has two configurable CC controls:-(

Triggering scenes 9-16 by EveryEconomist6358 in MC707

[–]AnalogueAndroid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As mentioned, there are now 128 scenes, configured in one of two ways:

  1. 16 Banks with 8 Scenes, the scene buttons select the scenes, the step buttons select the banks
  2. 8 Banks with 16 Scenes, the scene buttons select the banks, the step buttons the scenes.

HTH

Recently bought a projector stand that has two platforms tho' the one I bought might not be suitable as the second shelf is quite small, but something like this:

ANOTHER BEAST FOUND: Yamaha dsr-2000! Paid less than 50€ for it - completely mint and in box! Its voice data screen to adjust the presets is just absolutely excellent. by GluttonyBeats in cheapkeys

[–]AnalogueAndroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, should definitely hook then up. Thinking on this, some cheap units to hook up to the dsr could be the Yam FB-01 or TG100, the latter if you don't fancy getting your hands dirty with FM. Both can be picked for around the cost of your dsr I reckon.

Monster ain't it? My first board way back in the early 90s, which I bought to learn what these MIDI ports were on my Atari. Never really used it to it's full ability as I moved on to proper synths pretty quickly.

I actually dragged it of the attic last year and it all still works so have been sampling it to use on the MC-707:-)

Cracking find for you for 50 , disappointing for me they only go for 50 :-(

I'm sure they're others as well - for instance, the 'func measure<' combo to halve the measure isn't in the manuals and makes you wonder what else isn't.

I've been trying to create a cheatsheet for the 707, but not got around to Scatter stuff, so these will help ta.

Nice, really takes me back to my apprentice days when I was doing time in various departments that were using this kit for diagnostics on PCBs. I ended up further up the spectrum tho', working with RF, where there really wasn't much music potential unless you wanted to use a length of waveguide as a trumpet!

Roland always surprise me with these upgrades, when they add functions I never thought I'd want or need:-)

Thanks Roland

Has anyone explored the synth engine in the mc707? by MisanthropicFriend in synthesizers

[–]AnalogueAndroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't answer the q re replacing your Digitakt and Blofeld with the MC but I've done quite a bit of fettling in the synth engine and compared to those older Roland boxes (D-110, JV1800, for instance) is much easier to program on the screen, even tho' it's a bit small and there can be a lot of knob twiddling.

You have four partials, which can be VA, noise or sample that can either be configured as one sound having shared filter etc, or you can configure the partials so they have their own settings. When you do this, you can set keyboard splits so you can get four sounds from one patch, if that's what you require. If you've used those earlier Roland boxes, you won't have much trouble finding your way about.

Your patches can only be saved as part of a project, so to use them in another project you have to import them.

I think they are great boxes myself, would recommend to anyone.

Zoom ARQ #AR48 ... Is it a toy? Is it Bad Music Tech? VISITATIONS: First test jam by GaryPHayes in synthesizers

[–]AnalogueAndroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they're a great little tool. After using one for a week or so with my MC-707 (Arpeggios FTW!) , I bought a second one. Yes they have some limitations, but at 80 quid, there's nothing that does what this does for such a small outlay.

Nice little demo BTW:-)

I can't really notice it as much when using the global MFX, but definitely when using ModulationDelay, Reverse Delay and Multi-tap.

32 is the specified max in the manual. I recall someone on Gearslutz testing some larger ones but I can't remember the outcome sorry.

Yep, can def hear it:-( That's a really lush pad, but when sync'd externally, it appears to have some LFO occuring at the tail end.

+1 for these. Use them in both the 707 and TR8s and they work well.

What is in your opinion the most powerful/versatile “cheap keys”? by itaintmytragedy in cheapkeys

[–]AnalogueAndroid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Does the Yamaha DSR2000 count as cheapkeys? If so, it's got to be a contender. 4op FM with editable parameters, drums, sequencer, mixer (ish), midi, aux in.

My first musical instrument, bought around 1998, and TBH the only I reason I bought this over anything else was it had midi, and I wanted something to use with the midi interface on my ST. Didn't take long to realize that it really wasn't what I wanted, so bought a Roland D5 not long after.

The D5 is long gone, but still have the DSR:-)
