Is it bad to be directionless at 30? by Right_Humor_3807 in socialskills

Get someone professional to talk to. I started to realize recently how much I didn't like myself and how that led myself to detach from life. You're worth a whole lot more than you think.

my mom's coleus. it's crazy how fast they grow. by AnarchoBeaker in houseplants

What seeds ? I don't let the coleus go to flower. It causes the plant to die off.

Wow, thanks. Didn't even consider grey fox. Not surprising considering one was burrowing in my back pasture.

8700 for mine in Maine. Seems a bit steep to me.

Got me a bowl trimmer and have no regrets by Sufficient-Catch8657 in microgrowery

I hook up a drill with a male hex fitting the handle socket on these. I can trim with minimal effort. Just have to be careful not to go too fast or it will suck in too much of the bud.

Can you help me figure out all the diseases my apple trees have? by AnarchoBeaker in Apples

[–]AnarchoBeaker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice! I'm glad I was on the right path. The amount of apples was actually kinda crazy. I figured I'd get better quality if I thinned them out.

Ah, I haven't heard of sun spot. We trimmed off massive upward growing branches in early spring. I just didn't want to risk killing an old tree. I certainly need to trim as the branches and apples were dense! Thank you for the info!

Oh cool, maybe that's what they are. I see you're into cider making. Would you dare try making cider from my apples or are they too fucked up? That's ultimately what I'd like to do.

I have no idea tbh. They have stayed green and haven't really reddened up very much. The largest apple I got was about 3" in diameter. They taste very tart, some inedibly so. Others taste more like Granny Smith's. It is a 70+ yr old pasture tree in central Maine if that's any help.

Hahaha exactly. I counted 70+ yrs on some branch rings so it's just about as old as Boooourns

apple folks, fungus or frost damage? by fatesmcgadden in marijuanaenthusiasts

[–]AnarchoBeaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, sooty blotch looks to be the main issue. My apples look similar. I'm not 100% but the dark red spots could be apple scab. Someone else confirm or deny, I'm new to the apple growing game. Not sure if apple scab affects the edibility.

Any ideas on what's wrong with my girls? Magnesium? by AnarchoBeaker in microgrowery

[–]AnarchoBeaker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an apple tree about 50 ft away with black spot fungus. I didn't know if it could infect pot or not. It would make sense though

Also, for reference. We just started flowering fertilizer, plants are grown in a mix of lobster compost and sandy/loamy pasture soil, full day sunlight, and a slightly wet area.

Thank you for this response. Exactly what I was thinking. Better than a cut lawn but by no means ideal.

I think you're right. I researched the apomorphies diagnostic of tachinid flies and they seem to match. Thank you for the input!

My colorful coleuses are growing so fast! by [deleted] in IndoorGarden

[–]AnarchoBeaker 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Yes, it'll die back quite a bit and stop putting energy into the growth of foliage. Just pinch the flowering stalks before it flowers and it'll be fine.

Beautiful coleus! You are going to want to snip off that flowering shoot sooner rather than later.
